I guess i spoiled my cat as I've been putting chicken in with her catfood while she was pregnant and while she's weaning. Now the kittens will soon be unweaned and i need mamma cat to start eating her plain cat food again. Should i just ignore her begging and hopefully she'll get hungry enough to eat her dry food? Thanks in ad***** for your suggestions.

Hi. :)

Perhaps you could try gradually reducing the amount of chicken in her food, giving her more dry food and less chicken little by little? It would give her a chance to get used to the dry food again and if it's done gradually she might not beg?

I've been trying to do that and she manages to eat around the cat food and just eats the chicken and so I'm worried she won't get the nutrition she needs from the cat food. I just recently started to kind of mush up the chicken in some water and soak the cat food in it and that seemed to work to get her to eat the catfood, but she still won't eat it dry.

Have you considered giving her homemade food instead?  Check the raw forum for recipes, since cats need more than just meat.  You can also consider feeding canned food.  Wet food is better for cats than dry kibble.

i would not suggest switching to completely dry, as wet is best for kitty.

however, you could do a mixture of wet food, chicken and dry food sprinkled on top. then slowly over time just put less chicken, and less wet, and more dry food.

i have to sprinkle some dry food for my kitties on top of their wet food. they both love dry food i don't know why...but, whenever i feed them i put a few pieces on top of the wet. its been working out pretty good for me.

have you tried offering wet food, particularly chicken flavored?  i believe dry food is not a whole diet for cats; it's full of carbs and fillers usually.  plus cats get most of their water from food.  maybe try a high quality canned chicken - i've been feeding nature's variety instinct and pride recently, and my cats all love it.
