Please join me in welcoming our new guest expert Amanda Novotny

Amanda is Special Projects Manager of Alley Cat Allies’ Law and Policy Department and you can read her bio here. Amanda is here to answer our questions about humane trapping of cats for TNR and I'm sure she'll be happy to help with other feral cats questions too, especially those relating to feral cat management in the community.

Amanda will be joining us on weekdays beginning on Monday, March 31st. The forum will be open to new questions until Wednesday, April 9th and we'll be wrapping discussions up by the 10th.

Thank you so much for joining us Amanda! Feral cats have a special place here in TCS and we have many members who are involved in TNR projects. I'm sure this will be a fascinating session!

Welcome Amanda!  My question is how do you negotiate (and inform) with a city council to try TNR? I think the biggest problem is finding a vet to perform the sterilizations.None are willing to give a 'volume discount'. Should the shelter advertise for one? That is one of the major drawbacks she says. We have a huge advocate at the shelter now, and I heard that she is 'talking' with them about it, but so far they still poison, and trap and destroy. They even passed a law that no 'feral' animals can be fed. (I guess I have a large number of pretty wild cats as my pets!) They even wanted to license cats for 50.00 and make it illegal for them to leave a person's property! Needless to say there was such a public outcry THAT was dropped! Do we need to educate the whole town on TNR and have everyone write the city? Thanks!

Hi there !!! :) Could you please put your questions into their own thread. Much easier for Amanda to visibly see a run down of all of her questions and for others to reap the benefits of her answer. GREAT questions!! :bigthumb:
