My queen Balinese delivered a litter of 5. Prior to the delivery her nipples were flat and my vet said they would come out once the kittens started nursing. I spent 9 hours on the day of delivery pinching and pulling her nipples and only could get 4 to be used. unfortunately one of the kittens weighs half the weight of the others and frequently gets pushed off. We have been feeding him by tube feed since he doesn't have a good nipple. Has anyone dealt with this and have you heard of a nipple puller. We called two other vets besides our own, we talked to our two mentors and none had heard of a nipple puller. My one mentor said to use a warm wash cloth and rub the nipples frequently. This was the only thing that helped, but wasn't enough to get all the nipples working.

Wow, that must be awful! I would go back to the breeder you got her from and inform them of this, it sounds like a genetic thing. They should warn potential breeders or stop breeding that particular line. Ask on the 'Expert" forums under genetics to see if that's the problem. I feel for you! Bless you for caring for that 5th kitten! Good luck and tell us what you find!

Her breeder is one of my mentors and even she said she had never heard of the problem. Her nipples are now normal, elongated. I do not sell my kittens to other breeders but I have now considered spaying her. All kittens are gaining weight nicely. The littlest one no longer needs supplementing to gain or maintain his weight. Thank goodness!

I'm no breeder, but if you are only breeding "pet" kittens I don't see an issue. If it is genetic it will never be an issue as long as you are fixing the cats prior to sale.

I do agree with that opinion.

Also, I presume your cats are of good quality. as you have two mentors and three vets and knowledge how to tube and all...  So your  kittens although sold as pets will be better than  an average "pet quality" purebred - and thus can almost surely participate succesfully at Shows in the Neuter class.

I cant quarantee they will be good enough to compete for the highest titles, but Im Im fairly sure nobody will snirk at them.

and thus, they will give much joy to their buyers, if they want to test the  Show world.

Good luck!

The only registered entity that will allow me to show my Balinese is CFF as they are old style. We only breed the old style. I would love to post some pictures if I can figure out how. I have never done it.

I dont know how it is in the usual american associations, but in Europe they would probably be allowed to participate, although they would "their certificate drawn" if they come first.   Ie, they would get their Excellent1, but wouldnt get the mark "partscore". for the championship title.

I read some years ago about a group of english breeders of old type siamese, who thus did particpated in shows and were also with the british Siamese circle. they couldnt of course not win any titles, but they did participate.  It was important for them to belong, they didnt wanted to start their own club...

In GB I presume they were with the main british association GFFC(?),  but it could possibly be the big European association FIFe.

Also, as far as I know, cats belonging to a recognized other association are sometimes allowed to participate in show, although outside the competition.  So they are showed and judged, but dont compete for the titles.
