Hello,

My cat had 6 new born kittens 4 days ago and all of them passed away. She is now so grieved and she is not eating or drinking and even she is not moving from the place where they were born at. Her voice has changed completely. It became so harsh and looks like someone is crying from inside. I really don't know what to do for her. Can anyone help me on this? Thanks.

I am so sorry for yours and your cat's losses. Unfortunately I have no experience in this situation but I promise to pray for you and your cat.

I can not imagine the pain that the mama cat is experiencing right now but my heart goes out to her :(

Do you know why the kittens died? Is the mother sick? It might be a good idea to take her to the vet.

if she is healthy she probably just needs a kitten to nurse. Could you find some kittens for her to nurse? Do you know anyone else who has young kittens? You could call your local shelter and ask if they could help, they probably have lots of new kittens at this time of year. (But please get her checked by a vet first.)

You need to keep a close eye on her to make sure she is expressing her milk, cats can develop a condition called mastitis if their milk isn't expressed. You can read more about it here.

Poor little thing,  I'm so sorry she lost all her kittens.

I am so sad for you and your momma cat.  Very hard for both of you in your different roles, I know I would stuggle to see and hear one of my cats go through anything like this.  I have not experienced it and have little advice for you, but general cat grieving advice on International Cat Care's site is often helpful in determining if some of the grief behaviours in a cat are needing veterinary attention quite seperately to anything she may need due to recent births.

@mrkq10,  there may be other people on the caring for pregnant cats and kitten care forum: would it be OK if I ask the site Mods if they think it would be helpful to move your thread or would you prefer it to stay here in behaviour?

I would definitely take her to the vet immediately, don't wait any longer.  It isn't normal for an entire litter to pass away.  She may have an infection, and her milk may have become toxic to the kittens because of this/  She may not be moving because she is sick.  Yo don't want to lose her too.

I'm so very, very sorry for both you and the mama, how horrible! I hope everything turns out all right with her, I'll keep you both in my thoughts and prayers. Keep us posted on why this tragedy happened.

So sad for both you and your cat, were they still born or born alive? If still born where they full term, covered in fur? So tragic for them all to not make it, I wish you all the best for the vets visit
