I'm in Southern California and we just had one! One of the bigger ones I've felt, lived here all my life. Preliminary reports by 5.3 centered in La Habra. Anyone else live around here and felt it?

The news said that there weren't any injuries, just property damage. One road got closed. Just unnerved a lot of people. It was very long, about 30 seconds, whereas typically you get 5 or may 10 seconds.

Hope you are okay. 30 seconds is a long time and feels like forever.

I used to live in Southern California but moved up the coast.

I didn't feel the quake but we had a strong one here in 2003 (a 6.5) and another in 2004(a 6.0). The 2003 caused damage and 2 deaths but the 2005 caused only minor damage.

We're in a rural area so that probably helped.

Stay safe.

I'm glad everyone is ok.  I've felt 2 minor ones and that was enough.  One was a few years ago and I was loading groceries into my car in the parking lot.  It didn't really register with me right away that it was an actual earthquake since they are pretty rare on the east coast.  I had a client from Cali once and she said she enjoyed the minor ones as a kid.  She said they got a kick out of it if they were on their bikes when they felt one.  I'm not so sure she felt the same as an adult.

OMG...not sure how I forgot this!

There was actually an earthquake here on the East Coast (totally unheard of) a year or two ago. I was walking to lunch with a few co-workers and someone on their front porch yelled out to us, "Did you feel that? What's going on?" And we're like, "Feel what?" Apparently, we had a little earthquake but we didn't feel it because we were walking (vs. sitting still somewhere). It was on the news and everything. Big deal over here as earthquakes are rare.

Hello. I'm new to this forum, yes I remember that earthquake.... That was Aug. of 2011 and I had not to long fallen asleep to a nap when there was this horrific rumble that lasted about 6-8 secs!

Could you please if you would, tell me why some people put either single or a group of kittens or cats on the exterior wall of their homes? Also, this may be something that's done in the States.... interested to find out if this is done Internationally. :-)

Saw this thread and thought I'd chime in.  I live within a two mile radius of the So Cal earthquakes this weekend.  Rather nerve wracking.  No damage here, the neighbors not so lucky.  The worst has been my two nervous nellie girl cats.  I coudn't feel some of the aftershocks, but they felt every one and there were over 100.  They constantly ran from under one piece of furnture to the next.  I locked them in the bathroom for a night (with blankets, box, water..), so I knew where they were.  The real issue was them not eating.  I tried to finger feed them an ounce or so a couple times, but mostly they were too scared to eat.  Thankfully they woke up this morning hungry and ready to eat.   On the flip side, one of my older cats couldn't figure out what all the fuss was about.  He didn't turn away a single meal...

I'm not quite sure what you mean?  Do you mean during earthquakes?  Or something like cat decorations?

(Welcome to TCS by the way!
