Has anyone heard of temporary fostering for a pet that you want back? I am relocating and likely can't take my cat right away but I don't want to give her up. This is very premature yet and I haven't asked friends or family but I just wanted to know all of my options for when the time comes. Please let me know if you've heard of this option. It would likely be up to months in the LA area.

A boarding cattery is what you would use in situations like this ;)

It's definitely possible to find a temporary home for your cat. I've actually thought about offering that service by our rescue to help cats who would otherwise be given up stay in their home. Years ago I found a foster home for my two cats for a few weeks while in the middle of a move. I put out several ads and found a great girl who was willing to care for them for a few weeks (it turned out to be almost two months). It may take some effort to find a temp foster home but it's not impossible, especially in an area as large as the LA area. It may be easier if you are able to pay some.

If you do put out an ad make sure that you can visit the home before you bring your cat there and that you create a contract that spells out rights and obligations. You will need something that shows that you are still the owner and that the arrangement is temporary in addition to a number of other things. Don't wait until the last minute to try to find a temporary foster home.

If you put out an ad make sure to include cute pictures of your cat as well as detailed info about your cat and your situation so that the ad is compelling.

If you have the funds you can board the kitty at a boarding facility but that can get costly and in my opinion it's better for the cat to be in a home.

It's not necessary to give up your cat for a temporary problem.

Good luck!
