My cat has a red area on his upper lips. It hasn't been bleeding but it looks sore. It has been there for a while and doesn't seem to be getting any better. My cat is about 9/10 years old. I haven't been to a vet but I'm planning to take my cat to one. Can someone please help?

Hi there ..

That looks really painful and sore. Poor kitty. It looks to me like it could be rodent ulcer which is an auto-immune disorder as the result of a reaction to fleas or allergies to food or something in the environment.

I would definitely make an appointment with your vet so that this can be looked at and treated. Your vet will likely run some tests to determine the origin/cause and rule out other things.

If you currently use any plastic food or water bowls, I would remove these and replace with glass or ceramic. Plastic has been known to cause this sort of problem.

Hope this helps. Best of luck and let us know what turns up.

Absolutely. I've seen this before with a plastic allergy. If you use plastic food and water bowls, change them IMMEDIATELY to stainless steel, glass, or ceramic, and clean them regularly.

I agree that this does look very painful and sore. The cat needs to be checked out by a vet.
