I have a 6yr old cat and all winter she has been really picky with dry cat food. The past few days I noticed she wasn't eating at all. She will eat cheese but don't want to give her to much. Any suggestions before taking her to a vet?

If she hasn't eaten anything but a little cheese for the past few days, I would take her to the vet immediately.  This is a very dangerous situation.

If you REALLY cannot, then you have to start force feeding her with a syringe.  You do this by mixing some pate wet food with water and then placing the syringe in the cats cheek (not straight in the mouth or down the throat at all) and giving a bit at a time. It's also not clear to me- have you tried giving her wet food, especially some that is slightly heated? She may be able to smell this better and so find it more appetizing than the dry.

I really cannot stress to you enough what a serious situation this is though. If she were my cat I'd be at the vet right now for certain.

Cheese would definitely 'bind' her up so she won't poop. Have you tried tuna or meat baby food? You have to get her to drink, her kidneys could fail fast. Have the vet check her mouth, she could have an ulcer or some bad teeth that would cause her to not eat. Good luck, I'll keep you in my thoughts. Please keep us posted!

I have an apt for vet now but not till Monday :( She won't eat egg tuna or chicken it may be her teeth but the not eating came on all of a sudden. She has been picky on what she eats all winter. Thanks for all the advise <3

Straight to the vet!  After just 2 days of not eating a cat is susceptible to hepatic lipidosis, a very dangerous condition, so then not only do you have whatever the original cause of lack of appetite is (which by itself can be serious) you then have the cat with a secondary and very dangerous condition.

If wet food isn't a part of your cat's diet, then i would consider offering her some as part of her therapy, but she needs a vet now.

Good luck!

I don't mean to be overly forceful but I really have to stress to you how DESPERATELY important it is that she eat something more than cheese before Monday.  If she will not eat you HAVE to force feed her between now and then.  You HAVE to. If you need further instructions on how to do this please just let us know and we will be happy to help.

Just wanted to thank all of you for your feedback. I did take her to the vet and they gave her antibiotics and on day 3 discovered she had ate a piece of plastic bag or scotch tape. She passed it and she was her own self. She went right back to eating as soon as she passed it. She still gives me a real hard time when I give her the meds!!
