Alright I have a 9month old little boy and he was my first so paroozing forums for problemsolving is not lost on me by far, but I figured with this little kitty it was time I post something of my own and tell our story, considering how unique is has become for me. Will be quite long considering the history leading up to my question but base line is: I took in a stray who needed a home and found out she is very much pregnant. Going to need a bit of help here. So here goes :)

My family (bf, baby, 4year old dog) and I just moved into a new complex roughly half a year ago and for the past 3 months or so the cat started back porch shopped for some attention. (Condo complex so she doesn't have to walk very far for each place) Eventually she started coming to mine more and more often cause I apparently showed her the most affection and let her inside. Soon enough I took her inside and gave her a bath so she could hang out a little less worry free because of my little one. Four days of actually bringing her inside and it became a routine (not the bath just coming inside for a stretch of time to eat and relax). They say you don't pick a cat the cat picks you. Which is the case here. She let me bathe her easily, been giving her all the food/water she can eat/drink, and she goes back outside after about 4 or 5 hours of hanging out and getting some lovin'. She comes back 2-3 times a day and is gone just as long as she stays and always goes off wherever and does her own thing at night. When she is inside she follows me all over the house and either sleeps in my lap, on a firm couch pillow beside me, or on our hardwood by my feet. And she purrs almost consistantly.

Before "taking her in" I thought she was just a fat outside cat that has multiple "families" like me outside of her actual home but soon after deciding I now share a cat with some stranger in the world I started noticing her actual frame. Her belly was the only thing big. Everywhere else was all bone.

So new theory, she was abandoned (which is common in apartment/condo complexes) and was house hopping cause she didn't have one, or is an outside cat to a family/person who doesn't much care. Also with my new theory came a new conclusion. This cat is very much pregnant. My guess is at LEAST 6 weeks or more cause I can feel and see the babies moving in her stomach. She adores me (which I know affection is a big pregnancy symptom) but she also trusts me a lot. So I want to care for her where no one else seems to be doing so. Which leads me to conclude with the following...

-Baby and only three days a week waitressing so no vet money. Don't know the first thing about her medical history. No collar but someone somewhere gave her a cheap flea collar that smells like vanilla (that and her light cream color is how she got her name, will post a picture or two).
-$300 dollar pet deposit if we're found with kittens (landlady doesn't like cats) so the not so happy boyfriend who doesn't mind Nilla but also doesn't really like cats is another slight problem. But it's too cold outside for the kittens to survive when they are born especially at night when she is outside the longest.
-Been giving her kitten food (and some milk here and there, which she seems to tollerate just fine) to put some meat on her bones and keep her healthy but she's still pretty skinny other than her belly. You can feel just about every bone down her back and can see the two bones above her tail, as well as a bone sticking out (to the touch, not visibly) of the middle of her chest. Not too sure if that one is normal. You can also tell her tail has been broken at some point in time but has been healed.
-She's not nested in my house yet and is still eating like a pig but I took her temperature today and it was 99.3 then an hour later 99.7 so not sure if I should try and keep her inside or not. Due to beong an outside cat I've never needed to get a litterbox.
-The fur around her nipples is gone but the area and her nipples are white, Ive never seen them pink. Also are crusty and dry.
-She also looks quite young so no idea how many babies she might have but we're hoping for a small litter so we can find homes for them all and get her spayed as soon as the babies are weaned and gone and keep her an outside cat to avpid another pet deposit. (Easy to stick her outside for a little while and say she's not ours if landlord decides to pay a surprise visit).

(So sorry about the length, almost done I promise)

In conclusion, I've never had a pregnant animal and have no experience with them and know next to nothing about this cat but we seem to have bonded since day one and no one else seems to be taking care of her properly but me. And I have no idea how far along she is. Any advice? Could really use it right about now lol. I want to make sure she stays well taken care of and all I know to do right now is keep her fed, love on her as long as she's here, and let her back outside when she's ready to go. Help?

Update: She has never nipped me or acted aggressively towards me or anyone in the house (except dog when he sniffed too close to her backend lol) until today. She climbed into my lap and meowed loudly before nipping at my hand. Kinda hurt but no broken skin. I don't know how it happened but turns out she has a small twig halfway into her vagina D: poor thing laid on the couch and lifted her leg to lick herself and I saw it and carefully pulled it out. She's been back to her loving self since but has been licking herself (belly and undercarraige) more than usual today. Any suggestions?

Hello and welcome to The Cat Site. I can't help you with any advice as I have never had a pregnant cat. I do hope everything goes well for you and her. We have members here who are experienced in raising kittens and someone will be along to help you with some answers.

I'm no expert of kittens or pregnant cats my girl is spayed but thank you for what you are doing for Nilla it's a very kind and loving thing! Keeping this from your landlord may not be wise though I suggest you approach her about the subject say at the moment shes coming to you during the day for feeding ect but she's pregnant and taking to a shelter would possibly end in the unnesscary euthenization of her and her kittens if they can not be adopted out! Tell her of your plan to keep Nilla as a mainly out door cat and that you will be finding suitable home for all the kittens! If she's food motivated maybe take her a scrummy cake or plate of cookies! My mother always told me theres no disagreement that can't be hashed out over a good slice of cake and a cup of coffee or tea. Nilla is a very sweet looking cat and I advise you find a low cost rescue near you who you can take Nilla to if there are any complications during birth! Most rescues have a low cost vet! You are an angel for doing this for Nilla and I am sure she knows you care a great deal for her! These kittens and Nilla would have had a rough time surviving while outside! I hope everything goes smoothely for Nilla she is truely gorgeous and sweet looking such a beautiful colour to :) I do urge you to talk to the landlord/lady though as if you don't it could cause you problems later! As for your boyfriend explain to him how bad off these critters would be without your kind help I'm sure he doesn't hate cats my boyfriend was never a 'PET PERSON' he never grew up with the kind of pet you could cuddle stroke and play with he mainly had rabbits/hamsters and though he says he despises our cat I often find them snuggled together watching action movies Lilly purring like a motor boat and him tickling her ear :)

So kind of you to be taking care of her, I took in a pregnant stray a little while ago too and she gave birth just over 2 weeks ago to 4 gorgeous kittens :D as for when she may give birth it's impossible to know unless you know when she mated and even then you can only narrow it down to a few days, as a general rule though if you can feel the babies moving when you place your hand on her stomach then there is less than 2 weeks to go, that said I could feel babies moving for almost 3 weeks before Daisy delivered though her babies were all bigger than average so I think she went a little overdue. Good luck and I'm sure you will find this site useful as I certainly have done

Thank you guys I have grown quite fond of her myself as rediculously sweet as she is I feel myself lucky for her to have "chosen" me to take care of her.

As Stephie suggested I'll think about giving my landlady a call. Still kinda reserved though considering most people dont allow pitt's and/or jack up the deposit because of theor rep. but she asked to meet him before we moved in, loved him, and waved the pet deposit all together. Which was amazing of her. But she followed with "but no cats." And our Humaine Society/pound is really not well kept and out in the middle of no where. I refuse to take her or her kittens there :( and I have well explained to my bf about how it's too cold outsode and they won't survive but he just keeps saying that "cats have kittens outside all the time and shes already an outside cat I'm sure she'll be fine/ we can't keep spending money on a cat that's not even ours" etc. etc. (My car engine siezed up and we now hve to save up for a new one so he's not a bad guy just money troubled right now) It took him like 3 weeks to warm up to her enough to let her inside in tbe first place. But I'm still working on him.

As for her having them I know it will be soon I'm just concerned about whether I should let her back outside like usual or keep her in by now. She meows like crazy at night/early morning to let her out while we're trying to sleep. Which is not helping the bf issue of it.

Okay if she's really that restless to be out could you maybe put her in a large dog crate outside on the porch with a heat pad or mat in it to keep her warm as well as blankets food water and litter. Tell the boyfriend its until she's had the kittens and tell the landlady the cat spends the majority of time outside just the colder nights and once shes had kittens you will be rehoming her that she isn't a permenant fixture it may give you time to get her to warm up to Nilla. Maybe even invite her round to see the cat. have her in said crate as mentioned if she sees you are taking appropriate measures to safe guard her property she may relax a little may also help if Nilla appears extra cute and purring perhaps feed her something truely scrummy before the visit

That's a great idea, I'll have to try it out when I do decide to keep her inside. For now I've made her a cheap little safe house I saw on pintrest. (Will post pictures) So she can have her kitties in there if she decides to have them at night and she's outside. I'll keep to the inside outside routine till she has them. Then perhaps bring land lady over. Who can say no to sweet innocent newborn kittens? Especially since they can't be moved right away.

It's a smaller tubberware box inside of another tub box with the holes cut in both and thick puffy stuffing between the boxes for insulation. As well as a little on the inside under a towel for mama and babies. Soft but firm. And perfect to get them through the night then transfer them inside.

Thanks but I only made it off what I saw on pintrest lol. Can't take credit for whoever thought it up first. I'll definately repost it somewhere over there for everyone though.
