ok so heres a tough one.i am a proud owner of 2 persians.one is double coated while the other is triple coated.with tht much hair, they not only shed alot but also get alot stuck in their hair.Especially my white one.she strts looking dirty real quick. my male ginger is more into running away from home.so wen he returns,i hv my objections over where he has been as he LOVES sleeping in our bed, LOVES climbing over the kitchen shelves etc.
How often is it ok to give them a bath?as u guys know a cat spares no bed or sofa or cupboard,i am highly concerned about how unclean they are and how unhealthy can it be fr us. needless to say, they hate water and giving them a bath is no less than going on war.and only I return with the war wounds [emoji]128557[/emoji][emoji]128553[/emoji]

I've only ever bathed my long haired tuxedo girl once and it was on a night time Daughter in bed and a glass of wine to steady my nerves. I got a washing up dish like the kind you keep in the sink and filled it with luke warm water baring on the hotter end of the scale. I placed a folded up bath towel on the placed the tub on top and kept an extra big fluffy warm towel to one side then I quite calmly picked her up and started to wet her down filling up a small plastic cup with water and pouring it over her shoulders and down her back. I rubbed a little bit of really mild baby shampoo into her fur and then rinsed her down when all the suds were gone i plucked her out wrapped her in the towel gave her a good old rubbing cooing and telling her how brave she was then set her loose she flopped straight down and set to licking her fur clean. I put the heating on to help her keep warm and withing an hour she was bone dry and had forgiven me! The key is to stay super calm! I kept her out the room while I filled the washing up tub and brought it into our safe room (THE LOUNGE) its where we do all Lilly's pilling medicating and grooming as there's plenty places for her to hide and hate us for a bit once done :)

ETA: I have just bathed lilly again in the same way I mentioned and shes now mostly dry. Wont let me dry her tail and is sitting on the floor lick lick licking herself I have our safe room very warm and tbh Im more wet than she is my jeans are soaked!

Cats are very clean by nature. There is no need to bathe your cat unless he/she gets into some substance that needs to be removed. With a Persian cat, you do need to brush or comb her hair regularly to prevent the coat from matting.

As for the ginger male, is he neutered? A neutered male doesn't wander outside as much as an intact tom cat. Wandering exposes him to many dangers.

the ginger male is not neutered.my vet has given him an injection for the spraying, its probably a hormonal injection as he has stopped spraying and isnt very keen at going out anymre.i dnt know if i shud still get him operated :/
are male cats in general more difficult to handle? my female cat seems like an angel to me as this ginger male is a handful!!

He is a handful because he is not neutered. If you get him neutered it will carm him down and he will become easier to handle. :D
