UPDATE:  The Neuro appointment was with Dr. Skeen in Winston-Salem, NC. He suggested a spinal tap.  I was very nervous for Catness at first but the Dr. assured me that a spinal tap for animals, which do not stand upright (like humans) is much easier. Afterward Catness was in good shape, and wanted to pee immediately, lol!

At 5pm after all the analysis were ran, I was thrilled to find out that there was NO SIGN OF LYMPHOMA or FIP.

The neuro said he did have too many white cells and though this may be a case of PROTAZOA INFECTION or TOXOPLASM.

He saw no organisms, but said it was worth treating with Clindamycin (ClindaCure).

Well, in less than 2 hours after 2ml of the stuff, Catness jumped off the  sofa and ran upstairs! He went to the litter box and wanted on my bed next!  It was amazing to see him mobile, agile and acting like a normal cat.  I have him resting upstairs now and food available for him.  I hope next he will eat again!

The vet says if this works, I will have a NEW KITTY in about 24 hours!

I think it is already working and so happy for my baby boy!

I am so thankful I could afford the $500 vet bills (one er vet, one reg, vet visit, and fluids daily)  plus the $700 spinal tap cost.  I do not work due to illness, but I will be able to skimp by and hopefully keep my kitty alive!

Thank you everyone for your help, advice adn attention.  It has mean so much to me the past few days!

UPDATE:  The Clinda-cure is helping some but my kitty still is not eating or drinking on his own.  I have been getting him sub-q fluids daily, but tomorrow the vet is closed.  I have been getting some liquid food into his mouth but he really hates it!  If he doesn't start to eat soon... :-(

Please send Catness lots of POSITIVE and HUNGRY thoughts!

Great news that it isn't lymphoma or FIP!!

There is a test they can do to check for Protazoa.  I wish I could remember what the vet called it.  They take a stool sample and check for the protozoa, and I guess it's not the same as the regular parasite test.  I just heard back from my vet that the test costs $113.  Might be different where you are.  We are having it done for Cindy - why not, they've checked everything else.  But she said the treatment for it was Metronidazole.  I thought the ClindaCare was just for your garden variety infection?  I hope you can figure out how to get him to eat...but you could always consider a feeding tube to keep him going until you can figure out why he doesn't want to eat. It's not as bad as it sounds, and I guess a lot of pets have them.  Have you tried appetite stimulates?

I just wanted to update everyone on Catness.  He is doing great but required another round of antibiotics.  He is regaining a lot of his motor function and even meowed today!

If you care to read this post, I believe you may find some valuable information to help others, should this ever happen to their cat.  Since Catness is a real hunter, it is believe he possibly got this protozoa infection from eating raw meat.

Even though he had a spinal tap by a neurologist even then the protazoa was not found. Many of you said a blood text would confirm this type of infection but this is not necessarily true.  The bacteria only sheds for a few days so testing methods are not predictable.  Even the spinal tap did not confirm the protazoa, but lucky for us and Catness too, the tap dispelled all the other bad stuff like cancers. The spinal tap cost $700 but at that time, if we were going to have to put our cat down, we wanted to know what it was that was killing him.  We rejoiced when the vet found nothing.

Catness hated and fought when it was time for his oral clindamycin and I let the doctor know we had a hard time getting it into him.  The vet said if we began to see relapse behavior to call.  Sure enough just as I was leaving for Orlando, Catness began to drool some and act a bit "stupid", crane his neck oddly. We were able to wrestle enough clindamycin in him, and my pet care-giver gave a dose or two but luckily a INJECTABLE version of clindamycin is available and only cost about $70.

So now he is getting a shot twice a day but really it does not bother him nearly as much!

It was such a mystery but glad we did not xray and other unnecessary tests.  It really pays to get to a specialist asap.

Thanks all for your support.

I'm so happy you updated us, especially with good news! And, thank you so much for your info on the injections, I know I would much rather give an injection then spend all my time trying to pill a cat! I can't believe how strong a 10 lb. cat can be! Thanks!
