I'm pretty sure my kitty is going to die, but I want to have an idea of what to expect at the vet

I have a six year old tuxedo mixed breed named Tiger Parker. He's been my best friend since the day he came into my life. I was adopting my other cat, 2%, and someone abandoned a box of kittens in the pet shop that was hosting the rescue group. They weren't able to take any more cats in and they said if the kittens weren't adopted, they'd be taken to the shelter and most likely killed, since it was kitten season. I said if nobody wanted the ugly little black and white one, I'd take him. Two days later, I was bottle feeding my little kitten and he's been attached to me ever since.

Tigers has always been a big sneezer. ALWAYS since the time he was a kitten. We never really thought much of it. Then about a month ago, he got a stuffy nose and couldn't meow well as a result. About a week after, the stuffy nose started to have blood as well. We took him to the vet immediately and were given a diagnosis of asthma, a 5 day course of antibiotics and an NSAID. The antibiotics helped a bit, but never cleared him up 100%. The vet said that if he wasn't better in a week, it was something worse.

Here we are two weeks later and he's gone from slightly better to worse than before. He's bleeding again, but this time from both nostrils instead of just the left one. His eye has blood in the tear duct sometimes, too. He won't eat because he can't smell the food, even though he's obviously hungry. My husband spoon feeds him. He's lost a lot of weight.

He used to chase 2% around the house and bug the crap out of her. Now he just sleeps or snuggles up with me or my husband. He has no interest in the other cat and not a whole lot of interest in playing.

We're taking him to the vet on Thursday morning, but I need to be prepared if he has something terminal. I've read that nose/palatal cancer is common in cats. Is this what he most likely has? At what point do I know it's too late for him to get better?

I feel so horrible. He's been the best kitty anyone could ever ask for and he doesn't deserve to be sick like this.

Mel328, I don't know what might be wrong, but I just wanted to send you and Tiger Parker big hugs.  It is so hard to be sick, and worried it might end in death. My eyes well with tears for you guys.  Fingers crossed it's better news than you suspect.

Sending lots of good strong energy your way..unless the Vet told you he is dying dont think about it..I know its hard believe me im a worry wart but think positive and the universe will give you just that..act like everything is ok.
When your going to go to work and you start thinking "oh im going to be late" thats all your thinking about so you get to work late..you have to say "im going to be on time" it was hard for me to change my whole way of thinking but it helps.

Read the book The Secret its a good book and when you read it you will feel so good.

I will think good thoughts about Tiger Parger. Good luck with him. He will be ok soon. :vibes::vibes:[emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji][emoji]9829[/emoji]

You gave that kitty another chance at life...you rescued him..you have given him a great quality of life..you love him and you gave him a home.

I just remembered my mom had a kitty that the same thing happened to him and the reason he was bleeding was because several reasons..all the mucus builds up abd it gets swollen in the there..I forgot the name sorry..but since it s swollen in there and he cant breath it becomes more like an upper respiratory infection. .but he got better just like Parker will be. This could be a really bad fungal infection such as sinusitis that can be resistant to the antibiotics he's on, or complications from herpes virus or possibly nasal polyps. Nasal polyps cause a lot inflammation which can make breathing and the draining of mucous difficult. If your cat has always sneezed, I am inclined to think that this may be a complication of an ongoing issue.

Please try and stay positive until you see the vet on Thursday, as it could be so many different things. Positive vibes and warm thoughts for you both

EDIT: Here is a link to more information about Nasopharyngeal Polyps : http://www.vet.cornell.edu/FHC/health_resources/NasopharyngealPolyps.cfm

I would ask your vet about this possibility.

Cats with bad URI's often have blood mixed in with the mucous coming out of their nostrils.  Have you ever blown your nose and had a little blood in the mucous?

He needs supportive care and he should get through this fine.  Possibly Sub Q fluids if he's dehydrated.   Possibly an appetite stimulant along with some really smelly and/or unresistable food (smelly: 9 Lives tuna, unresistable Hills A/D from your vet).  He may also benefit from a "steam shower" daily to loosen his stuffy nose, pediatric saline drops in his nose, eye cream as given by your vet, and possibly a new course of antibiotics.

I seriously doubt he is going to die, and I've never heard of a cat with caner in his nose, which is not to say it doesn't happen but it isn't common.

God bless you hun. I pray for you. Please know this. You have loved and cared for him the best you can. What ever happens this kitty knows how it feels to be loved and cared for. You gave him that. He in turn has had a beautiful life. I wish you love and healing . God be with you . No matter what choice you have to make for your Mr. Parker he knows you love him .

We took him in today. It's not good. The vet gave us prednisone to easy the breathing issues. We'll see how he does and take it from there.

Almost certainly cancer. I chose not to go to a specialist because with nasal bleeding and ocular discharge, it's not an early enough stage where treatment would do any good. They said the only other possibility is a fungal infection, but that's not very likely, seeing as he's always been an indoor cat. He's on prednisone for 2 weeks. If he gets worse, they'll try the antifungal as the last ditch effort, but since the bleeding is unilateral, it's pretty certain he has a tumor.

I'm so sorry.  I'm hoping that the tumor is benign.  Many vibes to you and Tiger Parker.

Love to you and Tiger Parker.

Tuxedos are the prettiest cats in the world to me.

How lucky you two found each other and loved each other!
