I have a six year old tuxedo mixed breed named Tiger Parker. He's been my best friend since the day he came into my life. I was adopting my other cat, 2%, and someone abandoned a box of kittens in the pet shop that was hosting the rescue group. They weren't able to take any more cats in and they said if the kittens weren't adopted, they'd be taken to the shelter and most likely killed, since it was kitten season. I said if nobody wanted the ugly little black and white one, I'd take him. Two days later, I was bottle feeding my little kitten and he's been attached to me ever since.
Tigers has always been a big sneezer. ALWAYS since the time he was a kitten. We never really thought much of it. Then about a month ago, he got a stuffy nose and couldn't meow well as a result. About a week after, the stuffy nose started to have blood as well. We took him to the vet immediately and were given a diagnosis of asthma, a 5 day course of antibiotics and an NSAID. The antibiotics helped a bit, but never cleared him up 100%. The vet said that if he wasn't better in a week, it was something worse.
Here we are two weeks later and he's gone from slightly better to worse than before. He's bleeding again, but this time from both nostrils instead of just the left one. His eye has blood in the tear duct sometimes, too. He won't eat because he can't smell the food, even though he's obviously hungry. My husband spoon feeds him. He's lost a lot of weight.
He used to chase 2% around the house and bug the crap out of her. Now he just sleeps or snuggles up with me or my husband. He has no interest in the other cat and not a whole lot of interest in playing.
We're taking him to the vet on Thursday morning, but I need to be prepared if he has something terminal. I've read that nose/palatal cancer is common in cats. Is this what he most likely has? At what point do I know it's too late for him to get better?
I feel so horrible. He's been the best kitty anyone could ever ask for and he doesn't deserve to be sick like this.
