Bladder stone question.

I found a white, clay-looking thing in the litter box. It was not next to any pee spots. It is about the size of a nickel. I was googling "bladder stones" and they look similar, so I got worried. I'm thinking it is probably just clay that didn't get processed when the litter was being made.

But, could a cat possibly pass a bladder stone as big as a nickel?

Also, I put it in water and it is dissolving. Bladder stones don't dissolve in water, right?

Thanks.

I think only an elephant could pass a stone that big. :-)  It definitely did not come from your cat!

When my kitty had a stone it was A LOT smaller. Something the size of a nickel would be causing severe symptoms. To dissolve struvite stones you have to have an acidic environment.

A nickle is 13/16 of an inch in diameter. That translates -according to my handy Swiss Army Knife app - to 19.36mm. That is a HUGE stone. I had a partially passed kidney stone that was 11mm and they had to.....go up the pipes....with a laser and shatter it.

Also, I agree with Raintyger that only a highly acidic solution can dissolve a struvite stone. It probably was just a chunk of clay that missed the grinder or one that was formed when some liquid hit it.  Was it near the bottom of the litterbox?

It was hidden yes, I just saw it when I scooped the area.

Thanks, everyone: I feel a lot better, and a little silly for thinking it was a stone. I'm a bit of a worry-er when it comes to my babies.

Since our cats can't tell us what is wrong, we have to worry about them. I'm sure you instinctively knew it did not come from your cat. Let me tell you from personal experience, a lot of blood comes out before even a fairly small stone. Imagine it like shoving a baseball covered in sand through a garden hose.

It just shows you care about them. Just be happy you got a good report.
