My calico has advnaced dental disease. I am curious. Can tumors or abscesses be part of this?

Also what kind of treatment is available? Is euthanasia the best and only option?

I love my cat dearly. She is my best friend, my companion. I dont want to lose her. Vet is telling me that its best to let her go.

Not sure what to do.

ANy feedback...

Thanks Frisky Olive's MUm

A vet usually only uses light sedation for dental work, even extractions. I can't imagine why they would want to put your cat down! Steroids can be used to reduce any inflammation or tumors. We had a cat with advanced mouth cancer and he had a good quality life for a year on steroids. I think I would get a second opinion at least, if anything to put your mind at ease. My 13 year old had MAJOR surgery for an abscess, I'm talking a foot long incision, and he did fine. Good luck and please keep us posted!

If I may, she has not eaten normally in a week. Has difficulty swallowing. I have been giving her baby food for past 2 days and she seems to be doing well. I also did a water solution for her with sugar and salt which she did respond well to.

I took time to raise money for her dental surgery. These are new issues that arose as a result of being evealuated today. I dont have the money to treat her abscess or tumor. Vet is not sure. She will be giving me the results of her xrays this afternoon.

Frisky is hungry rite now and is letting me know. Just gave her some treats and am bout to feed her the rest of the gerber baby food.

It is difficult to make such a serious and life changing decision to just let her go.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Thanks Stephen. Its interesting I was able to raise the money for her surgery. It seems that during her evaluation for surgery; vet came across what she thinks is either a tumor or abscess?! I will get results this afternoon. I dont have a facebook account by choice. Is their another way to see your cats page?

Hey, sorry i missed your post.  You don't need a facebook account to see Jenny's facebook page, hers is a public page just like any other website. The only thing you can't do is post to it.  So please visit her!

I hope your cat is ok!

Good Afternoon,
Has anyone ever had a vet appointment for Radiographs that includes a partial hospitalization for your cat?
When you get there your told that your pet will be sedated and radiographs taken and no partial hospitalization is needed?
Just wondering if thats common?
