I feed him 2 cans sometimes 3 of classic fancy feast. Than he has access to cat crunchies upstairs, Iam's kitten chow. He gets plenty of exercise.

Well since he is a kitten still it might be okay to free feed. If he is getting chunky, then I would say that maybe you might want to limit how much kibble he is getting. I have 2 nine month old kittens myself, and I only feed them three 3oz cans of wet food each a day(9oz total). I also do scheduled feedings too but not everyone can do that. It is always best to go with the feeding amounts given by the pet food company or ask your vet how much to feed to avoid a weight problem.

Being that he is still so young and very active, he will be okay. I think that after the first year that it might be easier for the cat to gain weight. Both my boys are about 9 lbs at nine months of age. Best to ask the vet about it if you are unsure though.  Kibble also tends to be more heavy on the carb side, if your kitten is anything like my one ginger kitty, he will eat whenever food is in front of him. He is my little piggy lol so I know free feeding is out of the question.

If you want to give him 3 cans of the 3oz cans a day and maybe a small handful of kibble daily that would likely be plenty enough food a day for him. But still ask the vet what is ideal for your kitten.

Your kitties are so cute, the one's colored like Bruce. So you feed yours pretty much the same jus less kibble. Yeah Bruce, shld'nt mind, hes a brat when hes hungry he misbehaves, messes with the plants, jumps on kitchen counter anything to make me yell at him. If I'm eatting he'll pester me. So thats why I've been keeping him well fed. What food you give yours?

Honestly I feed them both a variety of Fancy Feast and Friskies canned cat food. They don't usually get kibble because I like to offer treats when they beg. I give them around 6-8 of those temptations each at night and that keeps them pretty happy.

Sometimes once in a blue moon if they are really good they will get a little sardines in water with no salt. They love that but I only give them about a teaspoon of that every now and then.
I also give them a little freshpet brand lightly cooked cat food. It can be picked up at the walmart in the fridge section at the pet food isle. If I feed that, they only get one meal of that and the other two of the canned food. They get about 3oz of the freshpet food too if they get that so they don't get over fed.

I like to feed a variety of foods to my kitties, but of course all the foods were introduced slowly over a period time to not upset their tummies. But they are now used to those brands.

Kittens always seem so hungry lol. I think they would eat 24/7 if they could. I had to put mine on a schedule  because that way they seem to be less hungry all the time and I feed them every 7 hours or so with the exception being over night they wait around 8-9 hours for breakfast.

They eat at 9am, 4pm and 11pm. It seems to do the job.
If you can, you could try feeding him around the time when you are having dinner, that way he might not bug you when you are eating.

Your kitty looks like a little sweetie. I think the misbehaving just comes with the whole kitten package.
Mine seem to like to tear through the house, launch onto the sofa and flatten the dog in her pop up kennel bed. Always lots of action around here.

The tummy is cute I must admit,
but it is not a good thing down the road. My grandmother would over feed her lovely cat so much that he ended up very sick with diabetes, and it eventually took his life. She honestly didn't know that would happen though, and when she finally found out what was happening to him, it was too late. He was her favorite cat too which is the sad part.
A lot of people have good intentions towards their pets, we love to spoil them with love and treats, but sometimes it's just too much. Not saying that is your situation at all, but it does happen.

Your little guy is not having this situation, he is still a growing kitten so he won't keep his tum tum being that he is very active. A good feeding schedule might just be what he needs and a small amount of kibble should keep him nice and well fed. He will likely always beg for treats, mine will beg even right after they ate a meal. If you refrain from free feeding the kibble, he will likely loose the tummy.

Aawws thats a shame about ur grandma's cat, there's alot of mis informed ppl out there. My neighbor they only feed their cat kibble twice a day Iiam's and their stl big. We originally were going to stick him only on a kibble diet. Brett tld us its good for their teeth, he was like ur cat is spoiled. I had cats growing up we fed them both wet and dry whiskies buffet when it was stl around, and always a bowl of milk and water. Did'nt know that mik was bad for them. I use to give milk to Bruce until I found out that cats are lactose intorelant.:doh3:

To be honest the best food you can feed a cat is raw, the next best thing to that is canned. Kibble is not a great primary food choice because cats need a moisture rich diet. So if you are able, I would feed a diet primarily of raw or canned. Save the kibble for a snack or a small meal. It is really not that great for teeth. My dog used to eat all kibble and her teeth were really bad. Now she eats a canned diet too.

Kibble is really salty too and has also been known to cause urinary stones and issues in cats too. It makes a cat really dehydrated so they drink tons of water. So you are feeding the right choice when feeding your little guy mostly canned food.

We had Lillypad on an all wet diet when she was a kitten she didnt much take to kibble but the cost of the food she likes is more than we can afford atm so she gets two single serve trays of pate from supermarket and the 20g kibble at bed time!
