I just found out there is a chance it could be cancer in the stomach but more likely to be the following: chronic pancreatitis, bacterial hepatitis in liver and possible IBD. We will get antibiotics and hypo allergenic food. We are going to try another liver supplement which is a smaller pill. Denamarin. Any experience with this? After 30 days go for another blood checkup.

They did find loss of layering in stomach muscle wall which is a concern that could indicate cancer in the stomach. This could just mean IBD though. Inflammatory bowel disease. Only conclusive way to know is full surgery opening stomach for biopsy which we don't want to do.

Hopefully it won't be cancer and the other treatment will show good results! Any advice?

Thx
Melanie

I'm so sorry you're going through this. My Sebastian has chronic pancreatitis (confirmed) and suspected IBD (no biopsy done), although it seems the problem is always his pancreas being inflamed...stupid organ.

I really hope it's not cancer. I don't have direct experience with liver issues, but the liver support supplement you mentioned is definitely helpful. Pancreatitis and IBD are often treated with a short-term antibiotics (metronidazole) and steroids. Some have been able to ween them off the prescription meds in favor of a more holistic approach (homeopathy, Chinese medicine, raw diet, etc.). Sebastian is currently on a combo treatment plan.

How are your kitty's bowel movements?

Just got recommended to use Flagyl with the clavamox to rid her of diarrhea issue. What was your experience with this drug? A bit worried about doing both given possible liver issues.

I'm not sure I understand the rationale or like the idea of using two antibiotics. Seems a little excessive, IMO. What is main purpose of giving Clavamox? It can cause an upset stomach. I would think Flagyl (metronidazole) could be used for it's combined antibiotic, anti-diarrheal, AND anti-inflammatory properties. Sebastian was on Flagyl for a long time, and I'm starting to ween him off. It's not recommended to use Flagyl for a long time, however, because of some controversial studies done.

Clavamox for bacterial hepatitis. Vet seems really sure of using this for her issues. Is having loose stools so now suggesting Flagyl but only for 7 days to help clear that up.

I suppose you could give it a shot for the 7 days. Depending on what's causing the diarrhea, it could return upon stopping Flagyl. For example, if Clavamox is causing diarrhea...

I would definitely continue the Denamarin to help support liver function.
