Hmmm difficult one.... I don't know if dehydrated food can cause black stool ? What colour is the food ? Is it dark coloured ?

I know if I feed my dog mince beef he produces a black stool. It also happens if he eats dark coloured dry dog food. Also vice vera with light coloured food = lighter coloured stool.

Sorry I can't be of any more help ;)

Black, tarry stools are a sign of internal bleeding, no matter what the species.  This could be a sign of ulcers somewhere along the line, or even an open sore in his mouth that is bleeding and he is swallowing a lot of blood.   This would not be from consuming dehydrated raw food though.  I would say get him in to see a Vet, as internal bleeding can lead to anemia pretty quickly.

:yeah: But. . .I think eating blood can have the same effect, as digesting blood, whether it came from one's own body or an outside source, is what makes stools black and tarry. Some raw pet foods do have blood in them, although I don't think Stella and Chewy's is one of them. But do check the ingredients---if it does have blood as an ingredient, maybe try feeding something else for a couple days and see if his stools look better. But if the food doesn't contain blood then you'd better have him checked by a vet.

Red meat does contain some red blood cells and can cause dark stools. But not sticky/tarry.
