My cat of 4 years has had a pretty sickly life. We got her from really crappy pet store. I'm almost positive her mother was feral and had her litter on the street and the pet store people found them decided to sell them. She came home find. They said they treated her for a cold, by night she was sneezing cold, she was super congested and her eyes were super droopy. I got her to the vet asap. She had a pretty bad URI, ear mites and worms.

The vet said due to her prolonged exposure to ear mites, her ears would overly product wax. Her left ear is always waxy, and it's just wax I went to the SPCA clinic recently and the dr there confirmed everything our vet said. I had a soap solution I use once a week on the waxy hear, the other ear has this thick liquid that drains from that side.

Either way, she always leaves me a present on my bed/pillow a big ball of wax about once or twice a week. recently its been super cold, so she hibernates under my blankets with me at night. She wakes me shaking and itching. I think she's been itching so much she's created a sore inside her waxy ear. There's puss, I've been cleaning it out with the wipes the vet gave me that look oxy pads for pimply teenagers only with a orangish pinkish solution inside. A couple weeks ago there was pus but a cleaned her ear and used a tiny bit of peroxide on the cut (i could see it) and it went away, i can't see this one... I'm not sure what to do... or how I can alleviate my poor babies waxy problem. Has anyone else experienced something similar?

She's eating, drinking and playing with her older brother just fine. I just also want to be sure that everyone knows she can hear as well.. I can softly say her name and she looks at me, and when I call her for bed time even she's downstairs she comes right up. So I know she's not deaf or her hearing is restricted from the wax.

If she has pus coming from the ear, I would think she has an infection going in there.  Infections can cause a build up of what appears to be ear was too.  Does she smell funny?  Sometimes n ear infection will smell.

Also, a fungal infection can cause excessive ear wax, and sometimes cats will have this for years without anyone detecting it.  I would say because she is itching, this is more than just your average wax build-up.  Something else is going on and she needs to have a check=up.

I'd get her to the vet for a check up.  She might need an antibiotic.  I had a cat who had excessive ear wax and one thing I did was once a year, I had the vet put her under anesthesia and thoroughly clean her ears out to get rid of all the wax build up.  That way, I wasn't dealing with a yeast infection or anything throughout the year.  You might also check to be sure she doesn't have a yeast infection going on in there.  It's a simply culture.  My vet used this medication to treat it:  http://www.bcpvetpharm.com/news_bcpbnt.html .  It's a goopy gel-like substance that is applied to the ear and then is absorbed over about a 2 week period.  It's a bit messy at first, but it works like a charm.
