Hi everyone. I have 3 cats and my youngest male recently developed cystitis. weve never had a cat with this so this is new to us. I was wondering if anyone ever had a problem with inter cat agression and how long it lasted. I first noticed something was off because he was licking himself a lot and taking trips to the litter box. Then i heard one of my cats freaking out and it sounded like they were really scared or upset. i thought it was my other 2 fighting who usually play fight but i then realized my youngest male was under the bed, with my other male and was freaked out by him. they always get along fine and my youngest has never had agression towards any of my cats, even though hes very jumpy and scared of things a lot because of his neurological condition. i finally got them out from under the bed and had no idea what that was. thank goodness later that night i was sort of following my youngest cat around and checking on him. i saw him laying on the floor in one of my bedrooms, and he started to pass urine with blood. i took him to our vet which is now 24hrs for emergencies and got him checked out. its been about a week and a half since this first happened. turns out there are no stones or infection, just inflammation so they finally gave him steroids and he has stopped passing blood with the urine and now pretty much is back to normal. the only problem i have now is he still has a problem with my other cats. now we know what to do in the future if it happens again, but he seemed to be better within a few days, was still passing some bloody urine but seemed fine other than that, so we let him out of the spare bedroom weve been keeping him (we were keeping him separate so he wasnt stressed or scared). they said stress is the worst thing for it. it seemed fine at first, he was around my other cats and nothing really happened until we were downstairs the next day and he freaked on one of my cats agin. it was when one of my cats sort of stared at him the wrong way from a distance, he started growling and frekaing out. he then seemed to have a relapse of symptoms and thats when we brought him back to the vet and they gave him more fluids and the steriods. just a few days ago he seemed to be doing really well, no more blood and really acting his normal self again. he started pawing at the door like crazy to come out of the room, something he wasnt doing before, so we let him out. everything was fine, they seemed to be ok with eachother. my one female cat has never really liked him too much so she was just doing her normal hissing at him, but he didnt seem phased by it like he normally doesnt. things were going good again until downstairs my male cat was sort of running around a lot and seemed like he was staring from a distance as if he wanted to run and tackle him. my youngest must still be a little freaked that they may see him as sick and wanna hurt him because he started hissing and running away. i have to say though it wasnt nearly as bad as he was freaking out in the beginning. the only problem is hes not like a normal cat who can just try to run and hide away somewhere. his neurological condition makes him not be able to run or jump on top of things, he sort of springs around when he gets scared and then kind of backs into a corner and almostlooks like hes having a seizure. when hes gotten scared in the past over something his body sort of stiffens and his head kind of falls backwards. also my other male cat gets curious when he does this and wont run away, hell run up to him even more which causes the youngest to freak out even worse. i feel so bad and dont want him getting really scared and having a relapse so i put him back in the room. about 10 min ltr he wanted to come out again and i let my other male cat in the room to see what happens. they were hanging out together on the scratch post. as long as my other cats dont really take an interest and stare at him weird or sniff him then hes ok. i guess its improving cause hes not freaking out as bad, i just still dont want to leave them all together when im not in the house. im wondering if anyone has had this problem, even with cats that dont have cerebellar hypoplasia. he was never an agressive kitty, even when my cats would mess with him hed sort of just give in and let them mess with him. i guess it has something to do with him thinking they r still looking at him as a sick cat and hes scared theyll hurt him. i havent even attempted to let him go under our bed and see what happens if one of my cats walks by at the foot of the bed. that was also freaking him out when this all first happened. any advice would be helpful. i guess ill just keep taking it slow and having them hang out more and more each day..

How long have these cats lived together?  Is the youngest one NEW to your family?  It doesn't really sound like it.  Sorry, it's really hard to read because this is just a LONG paragraph, so I kind of got lost in there, but it really sounds like it's just more of a behavior problem...maybe an integration issue?  Perhaps you could start over again and give more details, but in shorter paragraphs or bullet format?  We need ages, when they were acquired, what you did to integrate them, how they got along BEFORE, that type of thing.  Maybe use their names, which one has the cerebellar hypoplasia, ie

"Cat A, 1 year old male, acquired at 6 weeks, has cerebellar hypoplasia

Cat b, 3 year male, acquired at 6 weeks,

Cat c, 8 year old female, acquired at 6 months

Cat C has never gotten along with Cat A, but that has never really caused any problems until recently, when Cat A developed cystitis.  Now it appears both Cat B AND  Cat C want to attack him, at least that's how it appears (to Cat A).

Because Cat A IS at a disadvantage due to his condition, he cannot just quickly run and hide, and therefore may feel more threatened than a "normal" cat.  This stress may be adding to his urinary issues brought on by stress.  "

Have I got the issue correct?  (basically...of course, I had to ad lib on names, ages, etc. for your cats
)   So if this is the gist of things, I'm thinking this probably really IS a behavioral issue, and may ask that this be moved to that forum, but will wait until you respond.    I DO know, however, that it's definitely possible for CH kitties to live happy lives with other cats.  One of our members has a CH kitty who lives peacefully with 7 other kitties in an RV!

Hello! These cats have lived together for a while. I got my first male, Bam, in 2008 and he is 7 yrs old. The female, toyota, was a few months later and she is about 6 Yrs old. The youngest male with CH, Osito, we rescued in 2011 and he is 3. The only issue we have always had is my one female is just not that friendly with him. Shell hiss sometimes but nothing major. Its not really an issue, she just doesn't really hang out with or play with osito, just sort of ignores him mostly. Our oldest Bam has always gotten along great with osito and they sleep and play together. The issue seems to be after he recently became sick, he seems to think they are still sensing there is something wrong with him, so if they stare too long at him he freaks out. They can hang out right now and things will be fine, until one of my cats gives him a funny look and he gets scared. He's not freaking out as bad, but its still an issue so were keeping them separate still. Even in the past if my female Toyota would sort of rush at him and kind of hit him on the head or just hiss, osito would fall over and just do nothing, or he'd just stand there and look at her. He has never been scared of my other cats or ever hissed at them at all, even at the female. They've always been able to get in the same room and hang out, no problem like this. This was definitely caused by his recent episode of cystitis. He's almost done with the steroids. Like I said, its been almost two weeks already. Hopefully i don't have to start anti anxiety meds..
