I have two ragdolls that are 7yrs old.One of them seven weeks ago had a colon operation, and l can say it has been seven weeks of hell.Keeping him caged for a week so he stayed calm and did not jump, but at the same time he was not eating so had to be spooned fed, in the end we let him out of the cage and he fed straight away. I could find no sites on the internet of other cat owners who had been through this so had to trust my vet and go for it, now seven weeks on he has just turned the corner and seems to be getting back to normal. If l had known what was ahead of me l probably not gone a head and had the op and the only other alternative would to have him put to sleep but now l can say that would have been the wrong decision. If any one has got to make this decision to make all l can say think long and hard and speak to your vet.

Was this surgery because he had Megacolon?  I'm sorry it was so tough on everyone, but it sounds like NOW it was worth it, huh?  (at least I think that's what I'm hearing you say).  I think anytime our cats have major surgery, we really do have to rely on our TRUSTED Vets to provide us with information on things like recovery times, what to expect, that sort of thing, especially if we cannot find other people who've experienced it.

It was a mega colon. And it turned a very clean cat into one who pooped around the house,as he could not tell if he wanted to use his litter tray or if it was wind so he had to be watched or if we went out shut in one room. But as l say it is now seven weeks and it looks like we have turned a corner and he has gone back to being a very clean cat again. I just wish there was some one on the internet who had been through this so l could have asked "what was it like after the op".

I am very sorry to hear about the situation with the mega colon. I have a male cat who has dealt with constipation on and off in the last two years. Fortunately through trial and error and supplementation, we have been able to manage the problem before it got too serious.

Glad to hear that your boy is getting back to a normal life again, post surgery. All the best to you both.
