I always struggle if I am over protective or if my cats have normal behavior. Darci, she's 8, has suddenly started meowing for attention. She will come in the room and meow and meow and meow until I Brush her or pet her or sit with her. She will even come in the room and demand it when my fiancé is there and she tends to be a little shy around him, although she's happy for him to feed her ;)

She seems healthy otherwise. After I brush her she's fine. She's eating, using the litter box and fighting with her brother. I don't think she is losing weight. It is just such strange behavior for her. It has only been going on a couple days.

My only thought is I had some surgery so I was slacking on brushing her which she loves. When do I start getting concerned?

Thanks!

Keep an eye on her like she's keeping an eye on you.  Sounds like she might be experiencing some separation anxiety and suffering from a bit of lack of attention.  You are HER human and she doesn't really like to share you too much. Give her lots of extra attention and love on her and it will probably dissipate.  If it doesn't then a trip to the vet is in order.  Also, if you notice any change in eating habits, litter box habits, any hiding, or any extreme lethargy, that's a sure sign something's going on and she needs to go to the vet.

My cat started doing that several years ago - and meowing at night walking up and down the hallway.  The vet told me it was hyperthyroidism making him meow so much after he tested him and found his thyroid levels high.   He was put on medication but that didn't put a dent in his meowing (his thyroid numbers have been good the past 2 years) - maybe as they age they get lonely?  My cat is about 17.  Or maybe your cat's thyroid is off.

Thanks! I am going to watch over her and see how this progresses. Has really only happened once or twice a day for the last couple days. I guess now that I'm healthy I have time to worry more about might be silly things.

Caring (& worrying) about "silly" things can mean the difference between a healthy cat and a sick cat.  It's good that you're seeing this and paying attention to her.
