Hi there everyone. I have a 9 week old kitten. She has started to urinate up to 15 times a day, and does drink a lot of water. When at the vet for her first injection, I informed him about this and he asked if she still had an appetite, which she does. She doesn't show any signs of pain when she urinates, nor is there any blood. The vet said it could be urinary tract infection, but doesn't want to give her antibiotics so young. He said if she loses her appetite or any other symptoms, we must bring her in.

But my question is, she is extremely playful, eats the exact amount of daily recommended food. Sleeps about 12 hours a day and is up and about the rest, could the drinking lots of water and the constant peeing being a result there of just not be a kitten growing up!

Please help a paranoid owner!

We tried wet food, Hills, and she enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the dry pills, also Hills. So at the moment, she is eating dry food.

That's your problem then. Cats require a lot of moisture in their food., dry food lacks moisture so she has to make up for it by drinking more water.

Dry food is the worst food you can feed your cat. It was designed for human convenience with no benefit to cats at all . Cats should eat wet food only as they need a high moisture content in their food. Otherwise they greater chance of developing urinary problems, stones etc...

If I was you I would change her over to a wet food - the cheapest wet food is better than the most expensive dry food. Once she is getting moisture in your diet via the wet food she will start drinking less meaning less pees in litter box. :D

I agree that she should be getting both wet food and dry crunchies.  She's still so very young that she needs the canned food as well as the dry.  I would recommend switching her off of Science Diet to something like Royal Canin baby cat (wet & dry) or Wellness (wet) & Wellness CORE (dry).  Fancy Feast also has a good kitten food that's canned.  She should have access to all the dry food she wants throughout the day, but give her 4-5 small servings of wet food a day.  When we got our kitten, we fed him wet morning, mid-morning, noon, mid-afternoon, evening, and then a bit just before bedtime so he'd sleep well.  As he grew, we reduced the number of feedings to his current 2 wet food servings a day with dry crunchies as "snacks".
