hey all
I posted the other day for the first time about our little kitty Mouse's plight. She stopped eating again and the vet gave her Mirtazapine 3.25mg every three days. We administered her first dose about 4 hours ago and shes still not interested in food. I thought it was supposed to work by this time and I'm getting very concerned because shes going to have to go for a TECA soon and I can't imagine how she'll make it through the surgery so depleted of calories, weight and nutrients. We've tried the A/D food and chicken baby food, which she ate about a teaspoon of yesterday but not much else. I am desperate and could really use some advice on feeding or other options for help.

Please and Thank you!

You may need to syringe feed http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating     The A/D is the right consistency to syringe feed without thinning it out with water.  The main thing is to be patient and go slow.  Use the side of the mouth, small amounts at a time and go slow.  Sometimes the appetite stimulants work well and sometimes not.  There is another one called cypro.  From what I have seen here some kitties do better on one rather than the other.  The cypro does have to be given daily though.

Always before syringe feeding offer food to your kitty to see if she will eat on her own.

Thank you for the video and for responding!

I was thinking it might have to come to that. She ate a tiny bit of turkey baby food this morning before I had to leave for work. I just held the jar in front of her because she was actually not hiding this morning so I thought I'd give it a shot. She licked at it for about 2 minutes and then didn't want anymore. I left her bowl with the baby food, a/d and warm water mixed to create sort of a soup because she has shown interest in the gravy in the shreads and gravy sort of foods so I thought a more liquidy consistency might be more interesting to her.

How long does it typically take to kick in? I had heard a few hours but obviously every cat would be different.
