If you are certain that there is a specific breed in your cat, a vet may be able to confirm this or you can upload a pic of your kitty to the site and see if any of our forum users have any idea!

I got him as way of finding a stray that wandered into my yard and we ended up keeping her lol Then she got pregnant by one of the numerous male cats that are in the neighborhood lol My cat is a black male cat. I don't guess he's anything spectacular breed wise. I was just curious. I'm putting a pic of him here. It's not the greatest because Ichabod isn't a camera lover.

I suspect Wally will look a lot like him when he is older. ♡♡♡

...with the cats...
my snick is a domestic long haired cat. her brother mickey was the same. both snick and mickey have siamese in them, with beautiful blue eyes. mickey was mostly white, with some gray markings on his head and one forearm and his tail. snick is mostly gray looking, but has a white undercoat.

Hes a little beauty, how old is he?

My cats are the same, well the oldest 2 are. Sam, my male, hates the flash on my phone and I always forget to turn it off. My female, Tigger is the same. The best pictures of her are when she's asleep ha.

My young one Felix however is very photogenic lol

Yea. I guess he's not actually a "senior" as far as seniors go. That is if I remember his birth date correctly. A lot has happened since he was born.

He's definitely not a senior, he's still in his prime.

All of my previous cats have been DSH or DLH cats. Zippy was definitely a Maine Coon mix. I will admit that one of the cats I'm thinking about adopting right now is a Turkish Van, the shelter isn't sure if he's a mix or a purebreed but either way he is gorgeous. I'm hoping he'll still be available when I'm ready; chances are he will be as he is on the senior side (8-9 years old) and he is FIV+. If not, well, there are dozens of other cats who needs homes; I'm sure at least one will like me. :p I generally don't look for specific breeds, as I go for adult cats on the older side. Connor was 8 and had chronic health issues when I got him so I'm not generally dissuaded by such things. I think I just want someone a little different as 3 of my previous 4 cats have been some variation of black or black & white and even a purebreed isn't necessarily guaranteed a home if he's older and has a disease. If I end up getting him, he will be my first actual breed cat.

I've never actually ever had a breed cat. I don't care either way honestly. I love cats whether they are "muts", mixed or pure. I'd love to adopt all cats (and animals) from shelters and give them homes! If only I were rich and had a lot of land!

2 black Persian sisters. Sophie (top) and Lilith (bottom). have no idea if they are purebred or not. They were rescued in a group of 20 Persians from an abandoned house in town. The Humane Society guessed that it was a result of a backyard breeder that just left them all. I think all but one or 2 looked like these 2. The HS only got these 2 and a male who was orange, gray and white. He was there when I met these 2 but had been adopted already.

Mine is a moggie, a gray tabby, although as he grows I'm noticing he has BIG, oval-shaped ears like an oriental cat, and personality traits that are unusual in a DSH. I don't know if that's indicative of a "proper breed" father, but my cat is super friendly, adapts instantly to new situations, likes meeting new people, follows me everywhere, and is extremely vocal.

Is DSH, DMH and DLH actual breeds? Or are they just a name of mixed cats? All my cats were given to me for free and I have no idea what they are... I know one is a DLH and the others are DSH's, though Morrissey MAY have siamese in her.

Most cat are not of any particular breed or even a mix of breeds. Most cats are either domestic shorthairs (DSH) or domestic longhairs (DLH)

Domestic cats did not come from mixing different pedigree cats together to create cross breeds like mutts like in the dog world. Domestic cats were here first long before pedigree breeds. Pedigree breeds were actually created from the domestic cat population :D

@GemsGem  that is really interesting! I had no idea. So, basically "purebreds" came from selectively breeding the domestics? Are they called purebreds in the cat world? Or just pedigree cats?

Sorry, this is all interesting to me... I never knew there was so much to cats (sad I know).

I have three babies at the moment. I have never had a pure bred cat and these are not an exception. :p

I have a DSH tabby cat. He looks like a tiger with all his stripes :)

And this little one, a russian blue mix

And the youngest, a maine coon/holy birman mix

I love them all, and I think it's very interesting to discover the traits they did and didn't get from their different breeds!
