Is this her first litter? She is likely in pain...keep the kitten warm and use eyedroppers to keep some milk accessible..in a few days with her pain down, she will likely let the cat nurse...so sorry...keep googling someone out there likely has had to face this! Main thing is keep kitty warm :)

Its easier to give formula with a dropper or with a little syringe.  The usual standard bottles are more difficult.

Also,  be sure he is warm before you even try to feed him.   Being cold he loses strengh, and cant digest properly.

If you think he may be dehydrated, it may be an idea begin with some drops of water - or extra diluted formula.

Being dehydrated, he also loses strenghs.

continue soon

First, the most important thing is to first make sure the kitten is warm.  If he is not warm enough then he will not be able to digest the food and it will actually kill him. Is mom letting him cuddle with her at least? If not, your first priority, more even that the food (which is also an emergency, but the secondary emergency) is to get him warm with a heating pad or similar.

Now, how are you trying to get him to take the formula?  The first thing to check is his position. You should not be holding him as you would a human baby, but instead he should be positioned as he would be if he were feeding off of mom- belly down.

I don't know exactly what you have tried when you say that he won't take the formula. Again, what EXACTLY are you doing/trying? We need more info to help you the very best possible. With a baby this young, if you are not already, I'd use a dropper.  It is slower and less efficient but with a baby that small who is not responding well it is  the best way.  Drop a few drops in his or her cheek (not down the throat or in the front of the mouth, and then wait, and then repeat.  Keep doing this until the kitten has taken as much as it will, but AT LEAST 1.5-2 ml or more. You are going to need to repeat this every 2 hours for the time being.

Weigh him every day to make sure he is gaining.

Good luck!

continuing.

You can perk in some energhy in him, by smearing a little glucose sugar on his gum. A common brandname is Dextrose, but there are surely others too.  If you dont have it at hand,  you can use honey or white caro syrup.

Also, when bloodsugar goes low in them, they seem to lose interest, forces, be lethargic - similiar as when they are too cold or dehydrated...     Some glucose in the gums makes instant help.

Even common sugar can help, but much slower.

Tulosai gave excellent remarks.     My23Peas too.

A good site is www.kitten-rescue.com

continuing

He was born by cesarean.  Because he got stuck during delivery or may it be so he is premature??

Does he has all fur in place, or is he almost hairless??

If he is visibly premature you must know his chances are slim.   Fight on, but be prepared...

More than 2-3 days too early, and their chances arent good.    Although some does it with lotsa help!

Good luck!    *vibes!*

He has fur. They didn't tell me if he was premature or not. We didn't know she was pregnant and she had gave birth to a kitten outside the front door and when we found the kitten he was dead. The next kitten got stuck. I've tried feeding him with a bottle. My vet said to sit him upright to feed. I have tried that way and lying down. She's letting him cuddle her and she's licking him but any time he tries to feed she's sitting on him then walking away. Vets told me they would have to put him down which I don't want. This is her first litter

I was advised when we bought her that she was a he which is how I had no idea she was pregnant. She has now been spayed. Thanks for any advice.

OK, so he is probably NOT premature, and if so, just a little.  So he should have a decent chance.

Good also she is helping with taking care," just" doenst wants to feed him.

You had already got useful advices.    As bottle doesnt work, use a dropper or a small syringe...

Small portions but rather often!   about 2 ml at a time.   1,5 hours apart at first, when he is stabilised you can proceed with every 2 hours, 2,5-3 ml...  More if he wants more, but  careful not too much...  The risk for reflux.

Do also burp him some after feedings..

Had you managed to give him some yet?   Or is he still without any food?

A healthy, full time kitten does have some resistance,  even several hours - we had examples of over 24 hours alone and without food, but it is stretching on all the luck there is...   As quicker he begins to get kmr-milk the better chances he has.

Good luck!
