Just joined the site but I've been lurking a bit around the site since I just adopted a cat from my local cat shelter. She's a female black and white short hair that I named LIly.

I've already gotten some great advice from this site and I thought it would be great to be a part of this wonderful community of cat lovers.

Thank you for very much for the compliments, My mom bought it for me as a surprise on xmas. Every year she buys many little gifts and one big gift for myself and my brother. This past xmas was the house and I was surprised.

I adopted LIly from a local cat shelter about 6 weeks ago and brought into my home. She apparently was a stray with three other cats that were found behind a building. I think she was chased or kicked at by people alot because she does not like me walking around her too quickly. I'm hoping she''ll get used to me but for now I make sure I give her some room if I can.

She just turned a year old (March 1st is the day I officially deemed her birthday because the shelter approximated her birthdate) I didn't do anything special and give her lots of pets and a treat for being my cat.

She loves to play and right now I'm figuring out what toys she's into. She LOVES the wand I got her and will quite literally sit there looking at the place I keep and then me repeatedly. I just got her the Cat's Meow from Wal-mart for $18 bucks (its on tv but you can buy it in store like I did for WAY cheaper) and so far she seems enthralled, bewildered and excited over it though we'll see how long that lasts.

I work shift work so my time with her can be a little frustrating in length, I can't exactly ask my work to change my schedule just for Lily so I try to give her some semblance of normalcy by making our time together enjoyable. I'm such a suck that I just worry she hates living with me and when I'm gone she's like "Dammit, he never wants to be around me" which is so not true

I'm learning about her every day and I really like to be able to share that with everyone so easily. It can be hard to talk to people about her because not everyone wants to talk about my cat. I've only had her 6 weeks and I just want to talk literally for hours and hours about her.

So far I've learned that she isn't big into being picked up, she misses me when I'm gone, she is not a picky eater but she is a demanding one, she wishes I'd leave the toilet seat up so she can drink (I won't, she has fresh water often) and I'm learning new things all the time.

Anyway like I said I can go on and on about her but I'll stop here and thank you for asking.

That's a great story @kordron  .  It's nice when you meet enthusiastic cat people.  You'll meet a lot of them on TCS....lol.

I will look into that "cat's meow cat toy" because it does not sound too expensive, and if it works on its own and occupies my cat's time, that is a bonus.

  I not saying I am lazy,.....but sometimes they can sure tire us out.

don't be too worried about leaving her alone when you go to work.

 She might be thinking, "okay, great, now I have quiet nap time...and my owner is out there making a living to support me....lol."

Lol thanks Cat nap, I'm lazy that's why I got the Cat's Meow. Even us lazy people need someone to hug and cuddle.
