As I have mentioned in several posts on this site.... I just moved with my cat to a new home. He is, upset, to say the least.  Also, the old home was like 4 steps to the living room, 4 steps to the dining room, 4 steps to the kitchen. Now he is faced with a much bigger space, probably 15 steps from front to back and also stairs and a second floor.  Also, he seems to feel it is necessary to run up the stairs every time I go up them.  But anyway... his ears and nose are kind of perpetually red. I would say in the morning after getting up from bed... they aren't but any sort of doing anything and he has red ears and a pink spot under his fur on his nose.

He is on kidney food. We don't know if he has kidney problems but it is possible. Long story short when he was 2 he had a bout of throwing up and his labs came back bad for kidney, however, after a while they returned to normal. But recently the cat has been so bad at the vet we couldn't get blood and the vet said to be on the safe side he probably should eat kidney food.

I would also add he is 22 lbs... and in the old small apartment got very little exercise.

Has anyone seen a cat get red ears from a persistent increase in exercise?

My kitties get red ears when they're stressed.  I would suggest some Feliway diffusers to help your guy de-stress in his new home.  Also, you might want to contain him in one room for a day or so to allow him to get comfortable and then open up more areas to him as he feels comfortable.  He's probably overwhelmed.  Stress isn't good on the kidneys either.
