Hey i just got back from allergy test they said i am allergic to cats and birds WTH? I have had cats my whole life except during a few months and during those few months my allergy were HORRIBLE!!!

THey said my worst allery are grass and weeds and cat and bird allergy are medium

I cant live without either and i am almost going to be a vet tech but i dont want to kill myself either, am i being punished or something? I dont get it..

I never had a bad reaction from a cat or a bird, I have had 3 or 4 cats at once before and now i have 20 birds!!!

My birds are quakers conures and caiques so they are not dusty like the cockatoo and grey family

I am so down because of this. I just have one cat right now but I did not want it to always be this way.

Did they suggest allergy shots to you? I get allergy shots for cats.

I don't know if this helps but I got tested for allergies when I was in my 20's  - 3 decades ago - and am allergic to cats and dogs, too. I am also allergic to every type of tree in N. America (with the one exception of red maple but that's not why we moved to Canada lol), and also every type of grass that grows here.

I have chronic sinusitis and asthma, no doubt caused in part by the many allergens, but I deal with them on a daily basis. I've never given up my cats, I can't "give up" the trees and grass so why give up the kitties who give me so much comfort and love? You can take measures in your home to help reduce the allergens, but working with them as career might be tricky. For me, there are some cats who trigger my asthma immediately, but with others it's not bad at all. I can't walk into a cat show, though (tried it once) without huge problems. I hope you work it out, good luck!
 Keep us posted!

You could be like me and have an allergy to cat saliva, rather than dander. If Porter drools on me, I break out in hives in the spot where he dribbled.. and unfortunately, Porter drools a lot, which is weird for a cat. Did they tell you what type of allergy you have?

If there's been no reaction, then what prompted the allergy testing?

I'm allergic to cats, and all 3 of mine are indoor only.  I take Zyrtec and Singulair (asthma) and I'm beginning a running program.  Unless you're having some severe type of reaction, I don't think you need to run from cats and birds just yet.  I'm sure the board can help you find a workable solution(s).
