No but humans get this same type from the sun. I had a patient who had it on his head. It looked horrible but he had treatments and was cured.

Hello. I just found your post about your starving kitty. I too, rescue the unwanted, so Thank you for all that you do. I only read the first 20 or so posts, so thought perhaps i can help. Yes, canned food or fresh food is the best, but she may not be able to handle it right now. Sometimes, when they are that emaciated, they need something that doesn't just shoot thru their intestines... Try dry. Of course she needs to see a vet, but if I only saved the ones that came when I had the money for a vet, many many lives would have been lost. So, in the meantime, get a small can of pumpkin.. You know.. Like Libby's.. You want plain pure pumpkin.. Not the pumpkin pie mix that has sugar and spices. Give her 2-3 teaspoons if she is an adult..1-2 teaspoons if a kitten. The diarrhea should be gone in a few hours. You can go up to a tablespoon, but that dose works wonders for constipation.. I would be careful. If it persists... Wait till tomorrow and give a little more. Give the pumpkin separate from meal time. Dehydration.. You can make your own pedialyte. The recipe is from the World Health organization. I prefer it, so i can use less sugar than what is in regular pedialyte. Sugar free contains xylitol which is fatal to dogs no studies have been done on cats. 1 cup water boiled then cooled. 1/8 teaspoon salt, 1/8 teaspoon baking soda.. Must be baking SODA and 2 teaspoons sugar. I only have 1/4 teaspoon measures, so I make 2 cups.. Just easier, but i ad only 1/2-1 teaspoon sugar. If it is one of my long time rescues, and i know their health.. I probably still wouldn't use the entire amount of sugar. Most cats and kittens willingly eat the pumpkin. The pedialyte.. Not so much. You will need to get an oral syringe and be very careful or you can mix it in with her food... But she needs like an 1/8 of a cup every 30 minutes. ANY AMOUNT IS BETTER THAN NOTHING.. so choose your battles and best of luck to you and your new friend.

Cancer is not contagious. It is from too much exposure to the sun and has changed and damaged her cells in her ears.

It will spread down further on her ears, which is why they will simply remove the top half.

Josie, The truth is that unless there's a veterinarian looking at the pictures you posted on this forum, no one can diagnose what's wrong with Pixie's ears on the internet. If I recall correctly, you had mentioned that your parents were lending you money to get the test done, but you were concerned about Pixie losing more blood from getting another blood test and wanted to put it off?  The vet wouldn't have suggested the test if blood loss was an issue for your cat, and they really don't lose that much blood. I've had cats who were a lot sicker than Pixie get lab tests done, and while it looks uncomfortable for us to watch, it doesn't seem bother them much (the trip itself to the vet is the worse part of the ordeal for most cats!) I hope that for your peace of mind you're able to get the test done so you can know for sure whether it's just ear mites, cancer, or an infection, and what your options are for treating it. If you can't afford to take her back to the vet right now, then continue to feed her and give her the TLC you've been giving so she can get stronger and be able to handle whatever treatment is necessary in the future. Keep up the good work and keep us posted :)

Or if you are someone who has dealt with ear cancer several times in the past, the pics are quite indicative of ear cancer.

@JosieMeow  keep up the great work!!

Loads and loads of vibes to you, Josie and to Pixie. I hope you are alright and again, whatever happens, YOU ARE A SAINT for what you are doing for PIxie. :hugs: She is very, very, very lucky that you took her in when she needed someone so desperately - someone to just love her and to care for her and make her feel comfort for how ever long that will be. I hope to hear a good update as do all of us. :cross: :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:

You're doing great with her Josie! I can't wait to see how much bigger she'll get.

Did the vet examine her ears again? It will be wonderful news if it's just dirt buildup. Keep us posted and post a picture when her ears are cleaned up.

holy moley!! I cannot believe that is the same cat. You are such a special and wonderful person to do this.... i am thrilled that there are people like you out there. I know that vets try their best, but you knew that cat better than they did, and I applaud you for taking the initiative to take that darling kitty and give her a furever home. One awesome guy!!!!!

She does look better already, and more energy is a great sign.

The ear gunk and earmites affect her inner ears, I also looked back at the ear pics posted before, and the raw looking sides from the base up would be from her scratching them due to itchy earmites.

The scabbed tips, and darker, more rigid back of her ears is where the cancer would be. Early cancer makes the skin where it's affecting change, not feel like the rest of her skin on her ears.

Anyway, positive update, we are all happy to hear!!
