I'm following Dr Becker's raw food recipe for my cats. She mentions that you can add more gizzards into the recipe, allowing you to remove some of the muscle meat. At the moment, kitties are getting this mixture:

- 2kg ground chicken necks

- 1.4kg boneless chicken thigh

- 0.5kg gizzards

- 0.5kg heart

- 0.25kg liver.

So, could gizzards be considered a muscle meat? Could I increase gizzards to 1kg in the recipe? Or even sub out the boneless chicken thigh completely? (this is all ground up, btw).

Please let me know what you guys think :)

I fed prey model raw, so am not by any means an expert, but:
Gizzards are considered a muscle meat, although they are not as nutritious as other parts of the animal. They do have a fair amount of glucosamine, I believe, which is helpful for cats with joint issues. Ritz likes them okay, but she has expensive taste (loves veal).
I do have one question: where is the secreting organ in your recipe, like kidney? (Heart is a muscle meat.)

No kidney in this recipe. I use a glandular support product for kidney and pancreas enzymes.
