A lot of canned cat foods have a recipe that is usually called "Ocean Whitefish (and Tuna)" flavor, but 'ocean whitefish' is a type of tilefish, which I've heard is contaminated with a lot of mercury (even more so than tuna). So much that pregnant women are advised to avoid it. Are foods containing ocean whitefish safe for cats to eat occasionally, if it's such a common ingredient especially in wet food?

The only canned foods I have containing ocean whitefish would be a grocery store brand that is called Ocean Whitefish&Tuna.   I figure once a week won't hurt;  it's just one of those rare 'treat' meals I'd give so I'm not going to worry about the mercury content.

I know many of the Fancy Feast Classics (Pates) have fish down the list but (a) what kind of fish is it and (b) 4-6th position on the ingredient list = minimal worry I'd say.

I've always kinda figured that "ocean whitefish" just means any random fish scraps that aren't salmon or tuna :tongue2:. I don't know if it refers to any particular species when used in this context.
