Hubby was weed-whacking outside and "whacked" a rock right into the sliding glass door!!!!!!   It's safety glass so as long as nothing hits it, I guess it will stay in place until the glass company can come over tomorrow.  I've closed the shade so if it DOES break, the glass won't be all over the floor (hopefully).  I'd never heard safety glass break before--it was crackling away like crazy.  Bizarre.

Right in front of that window is where all the kitties like to sleep in the sun so I'll keep them away from it the rest of the day to be safe.

I see one of the kittie's mousies right beside the door.  I had one break a few years ago, that was tempered glass, and it fell out a little at a time.

Get some Glad  Press and Seal and carefully put it over the door, going from frame to frame. Don't touch the glass.

That looks more like tempered glass than safety glass. Safety glass has plastic in-between two layers of glass and usually goes opaque when broken.

Oooh,:-(  not good.  Hope it has stayed together, agree getting a film to try and protect until it's out and new glass fitted would be safest option.  Lucky it stayed in the frame as if this type of sfuff does break through it can travel quite a long way.  I worked in an office where rocks would get thrown and the safety /toughened glass would get picked up right at the other side of the room  Main thing is all your kitties are safe and to keep them that way so hope you can get it fixed quickly!

On a different note - it make made a pretty pattern when it cracked.

Haha, I know, it looks cool with the sun shining through it.

LOL.  Yeah, the purple mousie is one of their favorites.  :-)   Maybe it IS tempered glass, I'm not sure.  That's a great idea about the Glad plastic--I was worried about something happening and it breaking before we can get somebody out here, and I would have never thought of that.  Thank you for that idea.

It does kind of look pretty, almost like it has a design in the glass. Hope they'll come soon and fix the door for you.

That's interesting about the Glad Press and Seal. The stuff I learn from this board sometimes amazes me.

I have to agree with every one. It looks very pretty! :lol3: So frustrating though. :( I hope you've been able to get it looked at.

If I were you, I'd leave it there. From now on, you'll always have something over your hubby. "Dear, remember that time when you flung a rock at our glass door?"

When hubby did that same thing, it shattered all over the place. Hope you have it fixed with no problems.

At least you're going to see some additonal work done as a result.

I see 'purple mouse' is still hiding there beside the door.

By any chance does your homeowners insurance cover this? I kind of think it doesn't , but it would pay to check.

I see now that it is a double pane door. Unfortunately, mine was just single pane. I had to take it 55 miles each way to get the glass replaced and it cost me $160. I could have replaced the whole unit with double pane glass for about the same money, but I had nobody to help me carry it in and install it.

I used heavy plastic to cover the broken out pane until I got it fixed.

Wow.  That's a shame.  My sister had something similar happen--she had a single pane sliding door.  Some neighbor kid shot a BB through it!  Her granddaughter and dog were in the vicinity and they were lucky nobody got hurt but the door was certainly done for.

Mine also fell to a BB. I had some wild dogs trying to get at the cats on the back porch, I was shooting at them with the CO2 BB gun, it jammed, I started to put the safety on, and it fired and I killed my door.

Well, they are actually a pack of dogs that have been dumped by people when they get evicted from a couple of houses and some that have just been dumped up in the National Forest. I don't want to use the house cannon on them, none of them look rabid, just annoying.
