So here's her story; she was actually dropped off on a random barn with another cat (I think it might be her sister because they are extremely attached). She had been on the barn for about 3 weeks and half, until I got her which was on the 14th. The owner of the barn said when the cats first got there he thought they looked very healthy looking, but he didn't realize they were pregnant until they started getting bigger and bigger everyday. So I took one of the cats in on Friday and am taking the other one in today.

It's kind of hard to tell what her behavior is since she just moved in my home, so she's still kind of scared. But some things I know for sure is that the kittens are moving! If I lay my hand on her belly I can feel a very distinct kick every once and a while, but I do have to be patient. I also hear/feel a sloshing in her belly. The hair around her nipples is gone and her nipples are clearly bigger, but I don't think she's producing any milk. During the night she makes a really deep howl kind of meow, so I'm not sure if that's her normal meow? She also purrs very loud when ever I pet her, but she'll literally move from one side to the other and just keep squirming every second while I'm petting her. She only does this while I pet her, so it almost seems like she's uncomfortable? But then again I feel like of she was uncomfortable than she'd move. And the last thing is she doesn't have much of an appetite. She doesn't seem to be nesting for finding any dark quiet places, she just sits in the window all day or on the bed.

I was hoping someone would be able to estimate how far along my cat is looking at the pictures and information above. I know that it completely depends on the liter size, the cat, etc, but I was still hoping that your guess will be better than mine! I know that a vet could probably tell me, but I'm not going to spend a lot of money to have the vet tell me something that I'll find out when she gives birth, but of course I do have the money if an emergencies happen!

Also, I'm taking in the other cat today. Will this be a problem? I'm pretty sure they're about the same amount along in their pregnancy. I can keep them in separated rooms once they have their kittens, but my apartment is very small. Or should I let them wander the whole house?

Also she's not eating very much and I honestly have only seen her drink once since she's been here. This is making me really nervous! Is this really bad for the kittens? Is there any food that cats love and is HEALTHY that I could give her? I was eating a corn dog yesterday and I let her eat a little nibble of the hot dog and she ate it! But I know hot dogs are very unhealthy for cats.
She wont eat tuna or chicken.

And my last question is will it be okay to let her outside once the kittens are about two weeks old? She is an outdoor kitty and I feel really bad not letting her outside. I'm not going to let her right now but I'm thinking it'll be okay once the kittens are older as long as she's not outside for too long!

Have you tried different types of cat food ?? Like gravy, pate or jelly types ?

Also cats can come back into heat as early as two weeks after giving birth. So I would highly advise not letting her outside again until she as been spayed. It would not be good for her to get pregnant again so soon after having kitten - it really does take it out of them feeding and raising a litter of kittens and it takes them awhile to get back into normal body condition.

She's still kind of scared and I didn't know what her behavior was like prior to being pregnant.  The hair around her nipples is gone and her nipples are clearly swollen and pink (but around them it is very pale?), but I don't think she's producing any milk.  She also purrs very loud when ever I pet her, but she'll move from one side to the other and just keep squirming every second while I'm petting her. She only does this while I pet her, so it almost seems like she's uncomfortable? But then again I feel like of she was uncomfortable than she'd move away from me. She doesn't seem to be nesting for finding any dark quiet places, she just sits in the window all day or on the bed. The first night I had her she would hide behind or under things, but of course that was probably from being in a foreign place. And the last thing I have noticed is that her appetite is almost completely gone (unless she sneaks all of her food and water while I'm sleeping).

She was abandoned on a farm almost 4 weeks ago, and the owner of the farm said when she got there he thought she was very healthy looking but didn't actually know she was pregnant until she starting getting bigger everyday. So I'm guessing that she got to the farm around 3-4 weeks into her pregnancy, since that's about when cats start to show. Even though the owner of the farm said he didn't know they were pregnant but did look healthy in size,  I think this is because he had no idea what size she was before. It's possible she could have been very skinny and unhealthy, and by the time she got to the farm the babies had grown just enough to fill out her size.. Or it's possible she could have been a healthy size, and really not have started to show until she was on the barn for a good week. So when she first got to the barn she was probably anywhere from 2-5 weeks along but that's a big gap. And since then it's been four weeks, so she should be anywhere from 6-9 weeks along.Once again very big gap! I wish I knew more back ground history, but I know none.

I was hoping someone would be able to estimate how far along my cat is by looking at the pictures and information above. I know that it varies on the liter size, the cat, etc, but I was still hoping that your guess will be better than mine! I know that a vet could probably tell me, but I'm not going to spend a lot of money to have the vet tell me something that I'll find out simply when she gives birth, but of course I do have the money if an emergency happens! Plus a lot of vets can't determine exactly how far along she is, and that's what I really want to know! I am getting very excited and hate playing this waiting game!

Her bump is obviously there, but it's kind of hard to completely tell because of her long hair and she's kind of a bigger medium sized cat.

Thank you so much for any feedback!

A few things I forgot to add is that she lets me touch her stomach, she seems to like it. Her stomach does feel harder of course, but it's definitely not solid like a humans stomach would be when they're far along, still pretty soft and squishy. She cleans her self every once and a while, but just like a normal cat would. I haven't seen the babies moving, but I also haven't tried very hard and like I said she has long fur which is harder to see through. And also I literally just got her about 2 days ago and like I said she has no appetite (which could be from the move or from the pregnancy), so she hasn't used the liter box once since she has been here. But she did pee on my couch today.. Do pregnant cats have a hard time holding their bladder when they're pregnant? I was first of all thinking it might be because she just moved here, but I have two different liter boxes in the house, have shown her where each one was a few times, and cats LIKE to go in a litter box because it's their natural instinct to bury their waste. So I'm just curious about that?

Regarding the litterbox, it's  possible she was always an outdoor cat before and doesn't know what it is. You may have to teach her about that (more than just showing her).  If she already has free reign of your house she also may be confused about where the boxes are and how to get back to them.  Generally it's recommended that you start a cat out in one small room and slowly expand the area that they have access to.

Regarding how far along she is, unfortunately, I can't narrow it down definitively much further than you already have. You wouldn't be able to feel kittens before 6 weeks, so she is at least that far along, and I would guess based on her pics that she is further- she looks enormous.  However, it is very hard to tell from pics.  Are you able to take her to a vet and get his or her opinion? She should probably get a check up anyway as she has just been added to your house.

Well my house is tiny as it is, but I will try that because I do not want another accident happening again. It was very hard getting it out of my couch! The strange part though is that she was covered in pee herself. She was laying down right beside me never moved to squat or anything, and all of the sudden I smell pee and her and my couch was soaked.

Well I'm glad to hear the she's huge from someone else! I want to meet the little kitties already.

As for the vet, I called a few  and they all said they would be able to give me a 2-3 week range pretty much, which I already know so that wouldn't be much use.

Hi everyone! I recently adopted a cat that was dropped off on the side of the road and abandoned. Because of this, I have no idea how far along she is! I know she's at least 6 weeks because I can feel her kittens moving, but I think she's way further than that. So what I'm wondering, is it possible for a cat to put off birth because she feels stressed? She is kind of warming up to me, but she's still hiding and not eating. Also I have another cat that hates her. I keep them apart but whenever they cross each others paths my cat will hiss and growl at her.

I don't know if cats can put off labour. If they could I don't think they could do it for long. When the babies are ready to be born they are come out if she wants them to or not lol :lol3:

The cats must be kept separate. Mother cat will not tolerate other cats any where near her babies when they are born. They will protect their young with their life ( fight till death ) or she could feel that threatened that it's possible she might even attack and kill her kittens - this is rare but can happen.

Sorry it doesn't sound nice but I'm just trying to stress the importance that she must be kept separated. ;)

Oh gosh, this conversation just got confusing because all of my threads got merged together!

Anyway, I figured that cats can't put off labor for a long time, like not a week or anything! But  I was thinking maybe that the stress might make them put off labor as long as they can, like a day or two.

I'm glad to hear that they can't though!

And yes of course, the cats will be in separate rooms once the kittens are here.

Thank you!

Re: Just a little trick I used on my pregnant kitty to get her to eat: she loves that soft cheese that comes in a pressurized can.Squirt some on the tip of your finger and let her lick it off!! I think Kraft makes one in a can .I hope this helps. Good luck!

As big as she is, she may be in labor any time now. Do you have a box ready for her? Have you tried dry cat food? I find that pregnant cats like Purina Kitten chow, especially since it has extra vitamins in it. I hope it all goes well for you and thank you for taking those cats in. :)

And it sounds from your post earlier about her accident, that her water might have broke.

I think she just wasn't eating because she was in a new environment, because she started to eat really good yesterday! Since then she's been mowing down! I also noticed that yesterday was the first day that she took her tail out from in between her legs, she's finally starting to like it here.

I wish it was her water breaking, but no it was pee. My whole living room smelt like it for the rest of the day. :/ She used her litter box for the first time though last night, because I decided to isolate her in the bathroom with her liter box. Which is actually where I set up her nesting spot and everything.

She's actually been hanging out in there so I think that's a good sign! It's small, dark and warm so she probably likes it!
