I adopted my sweet girl Bitsy 3 years ago from the local humane society, she was estimated to be about 2 yrs old at the time.

She's a very sweet, gentle, playful and affectionate girl.

Not long after I rescued her, I learned that she would sometimes pee on my shaggy/chenille bath mat......I figured she did it because the long shaggy fibers were sorta things she would "dig into" (like litter).    She's strangely never done it since.    But she will pee on folded clean clothes.   I don't have a laundry room so when I take clothes out of the dryer (on my main floor) I will carry them to living room floor (area rug) and sit there and fold them and pile them up until I take them upstairs to put away.    I was shocked to find she would sometimes sorta "dig down" into the pile and pee in them.  Ugh.  Okay, so lesson learned, can't keep folded clothes lying on floor.  FUNNY THING THOUGH...I have folded clothes (piles) up in my bedroom and sometimes on my bed until I put away and she's NEVER peed on those.....ever.

But lately she's peeing on more strange things...and it's always things in my living room.   Seems to be anything that she figures she can "dig into" (I guess like a cat digs into cat litter before they pee in it?).   I was doing crafts and left a pile of silk flowers on the living room floor.....too late I heard her digging and presto, she peed in the middle of the pile of pretty fake hydrangeas.    And lately if I leave a plastic grocery bag on the living room floor, she will pee IN IT.   Is she a nut or what?   Some things she's peed on, unfortunately have spilled over onto the nice expensive shag area rug I have on my living room floor.  I've thoroughly cleaned these areas with Nature's Miracle and it's not above me to get down and sniff all over the rug to ensure she hasn't peed anywhere there.   My usual tip-off is, my other cats will be seen sniffing something on the floor and then I know Bitsy must peed there.

No, checked at Vet, no UTI or health issues.

God I remember one day putting on a shirt from the pile of unfolded clean clothes near my dryer.....then that day I kept smelling cat pee......then realized IT WAS ME!.......UGH.    Shirt must have fallen onto floor and she let 'er rip, unbeknownst to me.

Does anyone else's cat do this?   So strange.  And yes, I have plenty of litterboxes (7 in fact.......)

If you're certain it's not a UTI... I would try changing your brand of cat litter. It could be that she's not a fan of what you're using. She might not like the texture on her paws when she digs around in it. I've had good luck introducing cats to Swheat Scoop, but there are a lot of textures out there for cat litters. You can take your time and experiment.

As far as the rest, I would just keep these items picked up off of the floor and if you want to fold laundry, I would make sure kitty was gated in another room, or I would do it at the kitchen table, rather than in the floor. Some cats are attracted to laundry. For my first cat's entire life, if I left a shirt on the floor, he would pee on it. I'm not sure what his deal was with that, but I learned very quickly that if there was no laundry in the floor, Fuzz didn't pee in the floor. He would use his litter box instead.

Good luck! Hopefully someone else will chime in with more ideas for you.
