Hello,

I am extra worried about this problem. I took my cat Socks to the ER 2 weeks ago because he kept going to the box but peeing only a drop. He got treated with antibiotics and some muscle relaxers and contractors and what not and has been on Methigel (he has struvite crystals). The first day he came back from the vet, I noticed that there were grey ish stuff on the back on his hind legs. His fur just looked more whitish-greyer around the area (he  is a grey cat), but he seemed fine, so I thought maybe nothing serious.

He just went urinating, he kind of ran in there to the box, and he peed a normal amount, but I noticed hes got some wet stuff + melted urine on the back of his legs and the belly. This has never happened before so I am a bit concerned. He broke apart the urine clump while burying it. Could he have just sat on it somehow? I am just hoping he is not peeing funny or something, just a messy accident. He didnt have to go back to the box again or anything after.

I am taking him for a follow up urinalysis at the end of this month to see if the crystals have dissolved on methigel, but right now I am on a watch. Has this happened to anybody?

Thanks!

Is the litter clay?  I know the Arm and Hammer I use is grey colored and it has sometimes splashed out of the box if one of our cats has a particularly heavy flow.  I wonder if it splashed back up on his legs?

You were very smart to get him to the vet right away.  Hopefully, the crystals have dissolved.  If so, that may have given him a stronger stream of urine (by "opening the pipes" so to speak).  That stronger stream may have resulted in the splash back.

Fingers crossed!

I'm so glad you got him into the vet right away for that.  As far as the urine, I've seen that type of "collection" on my cats while using the clumping litter.
