Hi, I'm Leanne

I got a new kitten Bailey almost a month ago, he was 8 weeks old and is now 11 weeks. I've had many cats and kittens but this kitten is the first I've had in years, i got him as i lost my poor boy to a RTA in february. It all feels new to me now so if anyone could help me with some questions that'd be great!

First of all i'm going to be keeping him as an indoor kitty, so do you have any advice of keeping him happy and safe, also preventing him from wanting to escape to go outdoors.

I have a yorkipoo called Buster he loved my other cat, although he did chase him a lot he never hurt him, but with Bailey when he's in his large pet play pen when i cannot watch him, Buster tends to bark, whine and jump at the pen, but when i'm holding the kitten he's fine with him. I'm terrified of letting them roam a room together with me present in case it gets ugly, Bailey was the runt of the litter so he is very tiny but has grown a lot since having him. does anyone have any advice on introducing them safely and making them love one another because the bond between my dog and my previous cat was lovely i just want these two to have the same.

And last thing is he ok to roam by himself after the dog thing is settled, or even if it is just me and him in my room, im worried he will get stuck somewhere or hurt himself, as under my beds are full of things that will soon be removed when my room gets redecorated, but i don't want him to get stuck under the beds or behind the tv? is there anything i can do to keep him from going in these areas but so he can still play everywhere else in the room?

Sorry it was so long, I've literally forgotten how hard it is to look after a new fur baby! Thanks for reading though :)

This is my little bailey isn't he cute?!

And this is Buster dressed as a pumpkin for halloween!

Bailey is precious!  I don't know anything about having cats and dogs together--I've only ever been a cat person!  :-)

I have to say, we had a cat for 18 years.  When she passed and we got two new kittens, I freaked out--it had been a long time since I'd taken care of little babies like that.  There were about a million places they could hide!  I even made sure the toilet lids were shut because I was afraid they'd fall in and drown.  My husband thought I was crazy and way too over-protective.
But you probably know which places or things could actually be dangerous in your place and those, you'll have to get rid of, move or block access to.  For instance, we put pieces of cardboard around the stereo system so they wouldn't get into the wires or mess with the equipment.  After awhile, they just learned it was a "no-go" zone and they never bother with it now.

thankyou! yeah i'm a cat person too but i love my dog to pieces. i'm the same with the toilet seat, i get so paranoid and panic over every thing i'm waaaay too over protective.

my room is no kitten proof so he can stay in there until i feel he is big enough to protect himself against my dog like my old cat used to, i dont think my dog would ever hurt him but i'm not going to take that risk! so at the minute they're okay with me in the room, little chasing but no aggression so im not too worried. i can tell he is much happier now though!
