When i took Zane in to be neutured. I asked them about his eye.  he gets dry crusty ressish brown stuff. They said it was dry eye and to use artificial tears. Is artifical tears the same as Visine/sterile eye drops?

Also could he have feline herpes? He also has been sneezing off and on. He is fine otherwise.

Artificial tears are the same as the eye drops and they should hopefully help with the dry eye.
Chronic herpes virus infection is a common cause of dry eye syndrome in cats. Sneezing "mini-attacks" are common symptoms of the feline herpes virus as well. Has your vet said anything about the herpes virus?

If Zane is just sneezing, but is otherwise acting normally, no specific treatment will likely be needed. However, if he begins to show nasal discharge, loss of appetite, or other symptoms, there is evidence of a secondary bacterial infection and cause for starting antibiotics. Most can be treated fairly quickly and easily.

Most (All?) Visine branded products are NOT artificial tears. Do NOT use them on your cat. They have added ingredients for itchy red eyes, which is NOT what you want.  I know this, because I had to give one of my dogs artificial tears for several years. You will find the artificial tear products in the same area of the store as the visine.  The specific brand that the veterinary ophthalmologist recommended is GenTeal. Our regular vet, also recommends this brand of artificial tears. It is safe for use for both cats and dogs. Sometimes you will see artificial tears also labeled as eye lubricant.

Definitely do NOT buy Visine products for red itchy eyes.

Thanks I went ahead and bought some that say artificial tears. The one I had was for redness.  I do have other cats. Wouldnt it be best to test him to be sure?

Thnaks i decide to buy AT to be safe. The one I had was for redness. This one mentions lubrication. How often do you give them and how many drops?

That's something you need to ask your vet. I was using them on a dog, for a totally different situation.
