Yes, PLEASE DO NOT let mom near EITHER Borck or Ollie but especially Ollie.  I was devastated when I saw that she had Ollie back because I felt certain that he would die. It is definitely not a good idea to try to get her to accept him or nurse him again.  She has definitely decided to abandon him because she thinks he won't survive and is a danger to the others.  She may think this about Ollie as well; I would NOT risk it.  If you want to get her by the other 2 kittens that is probably best but at this point I'd make the decision to permanently separate Brock and Ollie from her and raise them together away from her. It will mean more work for you but it is definitely their best chance of making it through this.

We were JUST talking about that. She has no interest in either of them. It sucks though, because they are both SO underweight. The other two are twice the size of Brock and Ollie. Hopefully the antibiotics will perk up their appetites again, because they're so small. :(

It will take Ollie about 4 attempts at the bottle before he will be hungry and desperate enough to accept it, but he will.

This is surely the wisest decision here, I am pretty confident that we must recognize the signs for what they are.

This is the best news!! As I was reading all of the latest kitten drama here, I was dying to tell you asap! Get the injured baby on antibiotics fast and clean the wounds! haha so you did, perfect.

I also really think they all should be on antibiotics now, one sneezing means they all are exposed to it and the bug is planted already, so the sooner on meds, the easier it is to clear them up.

Mom obviously harbors a uri, my guess would be herpevirus. Most common and unseen in healthy adults for the most part, majority of the time.

I completely believe mom is the bite culprit, and is a danger to that kitten.

I would rather spare you my story of what happened last year with one of my feral moms here with her babies.......................................unforgettable. But it happens, especially when inside, if they were outside born, if mom feels that one of the babies is a weak link, she believes it puts the rest of them as well as herself in jeopardy and a target for predators.

Anything, diarrhea even because of the smell attracting predators.

If outside, she would take that weaker baby far from the nest and abandon it where it will be eaten or die soon.

Well! A feral mom inside, noplace to take it off to, they do not understand they are safe inside, their instincts say make it go away to keep her and the rest safe, so if she already bit and dumped that baby, she WILL kill it.

As shocking as WE think it is, the truth is, it is extremely sad to me because cat moms LOVE their kids, have you ever seen what a feral cat does when she finds her babies gone or dead? It's the most heartbreaking thing I have ever witnessed in my life......

Despite that deep love they have, they are overcome with their natural instinct to save the litter, and will eat the baby if there is no other way to get it away from the others.

And I mean completely, not even a spot of blood left........I've gone over the whole scenario in my mind to try to come to terms with how, why......and I do 'get it' now, but it's still NOT something you want to go through, trust me on that.

Anyway, mom is NOT to be trusted with him.
I was wondering if it was mom who bit him...I think I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow (if things work out), just so the vet can SEE his abscess and go from there. It's so awful, it is definitely a bite, but it looks like someone tried to cut off a chicken drumstick. :(

So glad you now have all of them, sounds like you've had some excellent advice from others who have so liar experiences, I will have everything crossed that Brock & Ollie pull through with the antibiotics, them being smaller isn't a problem I imagine so long as they do gain weight, they may just always be petite. Would love to see more pics of them all :D

Ollie is the white/orange one at the top ( the abscess is on the RT side, you can sort of see it).
The orange mackerel tabby in the middle is Mordecai (Damian thought his name should be "Cheese Sauce" to go with Brock-Ollie).
The tortie girl on the bottom is named Abigail.

I will post more pictures when I'm off work. Doing an evening shift on four hours of sleep. *yawn*
Damian is home to look after the babies and keep an eye on Mama to see if she feeds the two big ones (Mordie and Abby). They're almost 400g a piece and Ollie and Brockie are about 170g! Mama's milk sure makes a difference!

Good job on getting all four kittens. Glad to see the two little ones are still hanging in there.

I hope the whole family stay healthy. You and Damian are doing such a great job.

Mordecai and Abby this morning. Mom had carted them off during the night, but I moved them back this morning where I can keep an eye on them.
Ollie is still awful at the bottle, he more of just licks the formula off the nipple, which works, too. :p
Brockie has most of his appetite back, but he does have diarrhea, most likely from the amoxicillin. He needs a bum bath probably twice a day. :p
Brockie and Ollie are just about to have nice baths, as I was advised to soak Ollie's wounds twice a day, and Brockie has a messy bum and is sloppy with the bottle. :p
And everyone is going to the vet today. :)

Brockie and Ollie each had a bath...No one enjoyed it.

Vet appointment is at 4:30 (CST) today; all four are going, even though the two chunkers seem fine, minus Abby's scraped nose. Will let you all know how it goes! Thanks again for all your advice and support and positive words. Wouldn't be here without you.

i have just seen this thread, I started reading it halfway through. I was so sad to here about Brock being rejected by his mama but so very happy to see how well you are caring for him. at first i thought he was the only kitten you had. Then I realised you had more than one when you mentioned Ollie (love the names btw) and he too had been abandoned. Again I'm very impressed! you are doing an awesome job at caring for these babies. I also find it very strange that she had a fourth kitten! where was she hiding?

I too have a pregnant cat, her babies are due early next week. She's about 58 days into her pregnancy. I took her in off the street last July. I had no idea she wasn't spayed as the vet said in October that because she was living with my, at the time intact, male cat throughout the last few months of mating season and she had not got caught pregnant, the chances of being spayed already were pretty high. So this pregnancy was a Complete surprise! as soon as she is well enough after the birth she is getting booked in!

Good luck with everything! I pray all four babies, especially the little boys, will be just fine!

Vet visit was excellent! And she only charged me for one exam, even though she did four!

I couldn't believe it was under $100.

She stopped Brockie's amoxicillin, as his diarrhea was so awful that his little bum was so sore. Keeping Ollie on the antibiotics for his abscess and possible URI. She said Brockie's chest sounded good and they were both good and hydrated, and that even Ollie's chest sounded good. Just going to monitor for returning symptoms. Now I know what un-constipates kitties.

Abby and Mordecai are excellent, so they are back with mama being fat and happy. She's keeping them in the carrier this time, too, not trying to pack them off somewhere silly.

I think the abscess on Ollie's leg was a lot worse than she thought. The drainage is so awful, but it's better for it to drain than to not. My two sickies ate really well today, though, so it's a good sign!

Your vet is an angel! When my kitty was sick, and my mother and I were almost crying because we didn't think he would make it, the first thing the vet said was how much it was going to cost, and that we had to pay right after we were done, and make sure we brought the card to pay with, because they don't send bills. That was seriously was he said..

How rude and unsympathetic, when one of my cats had to have his tail amputated, in November a few years back, the vet said I had to make a full payment straight away because I apparently told them, in the October before, I was going to! I told them it wasn't possible because he'd only just done what he'd done to get ihis tail amputated in the first place. Some people have no compassion, i reported the practice and refused to pay for any treatment and took him to a different vet!I never heard anything after that though!

They do expect payment right after the exam/operation, but I've never had anything like that said to me before! At any of the three vets I've been to since moving to Saskatchewan. Some people can just be awful; personally I think you should have COMPASSION for animals AND their people if you're going to be a vet. It can be really expensive, and payment plans would be a nice offering for expensive vet visits. They can be really hard to find money for sometimes.

They had a rescue dog at the clinic that belonged to the boss, and she was so funny. The vet said she LOVES kittens, and the dog sat outside the door the whole appointment, until I let her in to see them; gave Abby a big lick on her body and wagged her tail. It was adorable. :)
