I was watching the news tonight when I heard the honking and calling of the geese. I ran to to the living room window and there were geese everywhere. I ran outside quickly, even in the wind, just to watch them. Looks like they're on their way! The next few days will be filled with their noises. I love to hear them.

One morning, several years ago, I had stopped at the library's book deposit to drop off some books before work. And I heard the geese coming north. I got out of my car and I've never seen so many geese at one time. It easily took up half of my sky that I could see. All these bodies. It was so beautiful, it brought tears to my eyes. I just love to see the geese coming home. Now I know spring is coming.

Have you heard the geese yet?

We seem to keep some here year round and I know I've seen them in the sky lately.  Plus fields full of snow geese!  My 4 year old finds those fascinating!
We have several ponds and things nearby that the geese stop at so sometimes in the evenings you can hear them talking to each other.  I love that time of day!

A local friend just commented on facebook; asking how in the world these geese are flying in the crazy wind tonight.  I said maybe they are being blown back south!

At this point I'll take any and all signs of spring that don't involve severe weather!  My mother's crocuses and grape hyacinths are looking lovely in her yard.  Even DD has been admiring them!  Some other bulbs are pushing through too.

We don't have them here, but I can just imagine how good it must be to see and hear them.

We do, however, have flocks of unbelievably squawky cockatoos!  I call them the hoons of the bird world.. Quite crazy but so nice to have around.

They actually stay here year round. Last week, for the first time this year, there was a mated pair at the pond on our property. I love to see them. I hope this pair will come back and raise their babies here. The mated pair we had ran into trouble last year. The gander got caught by a coyote, then one by one the babies disappeared. The mama goose was a sad sight to see. Maybe she has a new mate now and we will see her again. One year, I spent so much time out there with them, the babies would eat corn from my hand. The goose family could be two or three fields out and see me coming. When I called them, they would come running to the pond for corn. They were pets:nod:

We usually have some here year-round, but they have been flying overhead for the past week or so. :). Soon we'll be seeing the fuzzy little babies. :D

We have some that stay year around and some that migrate.  The ones that stayed this year would've had a rough time of it.
