Can someone please recommend some spill-proof water bowls. Pandy makes a horrible mess with her water bowls. She thinks it is great fun to drag the bowls over our hardwood floors, spilling water as she goes. The bowls are fairly heavy and I put them on rubber mats with a lip, but it doesn't stop her.

Please help!

It's not really done for fun, cats have a very hard time actually seeing the water line in the bowl.

Try using colored glass or ceramic with some color. Some dishes are very hard for them to see, others not quite so bad.

Kittys will scoot the dish so the water splashes/moves and they can see where it is, rather than just sticking their noses in it to find it. For some reason they just don't.

Go to www.neaterfeeder.com they have feeders where if the water is spilled, it just goes into a bottom compartment and can be emptied out
Thank you so much. I will study the website a bit more later today, but I am almost sure I am going to buy one of those things.

What is good too is that I recently read that it helps a cat's digestion more if the bowls are somewhat elevated from the ground. I did not know this before.

Wow, I did not know that, but it makes total sense. Pandy's bowls are white and even I cannot see if they have any water in sometimes. I will see if I have any colored bowls before I invest in something new.

I use this kind:

http://www.classycatdishes.com/

It is an elevated ceramic bowl. I don't  know how strong your cat is, but I have trouble imagining that a cat could move the dish around. They come in several colors, including green and blue, which as I understand cats can see.

Those are nice, but isn't it possible for a cat to knock them over?

They are heavier than they look. The ceramic is very high quality and very thick. My cat is 8 lbs, but very feisty. He doesn't seem to be able to even push them around, much less knock them over when they are full. I saw a review where a disabled customer was mentioning the weight as a downside - the dish was hard for him or her to lift.

I have a water player and I bought a super duty heavy dog bowl.  I have problems moving it.  I placed the smaller cat bowl inside the dog bowl.  I didn't want to waste water by filling up the large dog bowl.  Now I have a large stainless steel bowl that fits perfectly in the dog bowl and use it as a water fountain with the Drinkwell Hy-drate pump/filter.

The water player is my mischievous cat, Josie!  I meant that in terms of her making a mess of the water bowl.  She likes to drag it around, splash it and drop things into it.  If you're interested in the water filter system I use, it's the Drinkwell Hy-drate and I bought it off Amazon.  It's just a pump and filter which allows you to use any bowl you want.

I didn't want to reply too soon, but it does seem as though this works. I live nowhere near a pet store, but last Friday I found a small green container in Stop and Shop's pet supplies aisle. It is made of some kind of recycled paper in America and cost the grand sum of $2.50. It is the right color, but, because it is so lightweight, I presumed it would be a failure. However, I can now say that it stays where I put it 99% of the time and Pandy does not spill its water. The only time she seems to play with it is overnight. She sleeps behind closed doors and, most likely, gets bored from time to time. She never plays with it when it is moved out of her "bedroom" into our main living quarters.

So, all in all, I judge this to be a success. I want to thank you for your help (everyone else also) who helped me with this problem.

Don't give  your cats milk to drink. It is not good for them. Water is sufficient. Also, put down the toilet lid then they can't drink from the bowl.

It's true that cats, like many humans, can be lactose intolerant of regular pasteurized (processed) milk.

However, it's also been found that properly filtered, un-processed (raw) milk is tolerated quite well.

This is because the pasteurization process kills off certain enzymes in natural milk that actually help the body break down the lactose.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to obtain natural milk, as it is illegal to retail it.  However, if you have an animal, or own interest in a herd (some co-ops do this), you have the right to the milk product in any form.

Do the research before making judgement.  After all, there are barn cats across the nation who drink fresh, natural milk without any problems at all.

As for drinking out of the toilet... can't help ya there, lol.

My cats are trained to actually use the toilet for it's intended purpose, therefore they are not remotely inclined to drink from it.

I had to idea I was making judgement.
Please don't take things out of context.

It was meant in a general sense, referring to what I was saying earlier in my post about raw milk, not aimed at anyone specifically.
