Have a 3yo ASH Blue. This evening she was chasing around something that looked like it was stuck to her foot. After about an hour of trying to catch her, finally success.

This was really weird. It was something coming out of her leg. It looked like a slightly tattered carpet thread at the loose end. But then where it was coming out of her left fibula it looked more like a very thin tendon or a thick whisker. At the point of attachment there was an area of wound about 3mms wide. It was not bleeding or greatly inflamed, just like a skin sore.

I clipped the growth off her. Its about 5 inches long and roughly 1mm wide. She does not seem sore, was purring when I lightly massaged it after removal. She is not limping or favoring the leg at all.

Any thoughts?

That sounds really odd. All I can think of is maybe a whisker that somehow was ingrown. I've seen ingrown hairs in humans turn into inflamed cysts, but once you get the hair out it heals up fine.
Definitely something to keep an eye on.

Boy, I hope SOMEONE can help you, that would freak me out! I'm no help at all but want you to know I'll keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Hopefully it's just a weird out of control hair. Good luck!

She seems to be fine again this morning. The ingrown whisker scenario had occurred to me, but this fiber is white-ish where her whiskers are black. Don know if that would make a difference. You can't even find the sore spot any more.

I've come across that on quite a few strays and ferals. The first time I saw it was on the leg of a feral tom that I had trapped and I was sure it was a stitch!

Two hours later I had him at the vet for neutering and the "stitch" had disappeared. I described it to the vet and turns out it was a scab. Sure enough, since then I've noticed it quite often from a superficial scratch.

Susan, describing it as a stitch sounds like its the same thing. It had that type of stiff thread aspect. But by being almost 5 inches long and on her calf, it seems unlikely as a scab. She has not been feral since birth, she is completely indoors since weaning. Almost three years.
