Ooo this is a fun thread!

As far back as I can remember I have LOVED music, started with my earliest years growing up in the Detroit area, Motown capital, and to this day it is truly mowtown that goes to the depths of my soul, and will always be my number one.

I can't say a particualr album, except of course for Marvin Gaye, Al Green, Spinners, 4 Tops, Earth, Wind & Fire, but the singles....oh my gosh, Show n Tell, I'll take you there by the Staple singers, I could go on endlessly, no kidding. My all time mowtown fave has got to be "What does it take" by Jr. Walker and the Allstars, oh that saxophone gives me chills to this day.

Geez I was young then too, born in '61. (who just said that??!!)

Ealry '70's is awesome too!

I loved Carly Simon, is it called Marry Me? My father sits at night at with no lights on..." or who sings that song BILL! Oh yeah, Marilyn Mc Coo, "I love you sooo I always will...." :)

Young Stevie Wonder singing My Cheri Amor, how awesome was that?! Oh the memories these all bring back to me!

Then I was a rocker, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Boston, Foreigner, Pink Floyd, how about Billy Idol's "Eyes without a face", I LOVE that one.

A few years back I was sent the best email ever, it's a music jukebox, you just click on the year of music you want to hear, and it plays the top 100 songs of that time. I will have that playing in the background while working at my computer all day long, makes it alot better!

If anyone wants me to forward that email to you just pm me, I'd be happy to, it's really great.

He aint heavy, he's my brother", so sad to me. Simon and Garfunkel's  Bridge over troubled waters, what an awesome, beautiful sound. Gotta turn it up loud :)

Speaking of Simon and Garfunkel, has anyone heard their version of "Only have eyes for you? Talk about beautiful........

LOVE music. How plain life would be without it.

Well I was only the year after you and remember all the stuff you menion!  Forgot about Boston  'More than a feeling'!!!!  AC/DC, now there's a band, I even remember a load of us wearing black armbands to school when Bon Scott died... teenagers! On the Simon and Garfunkle, yes yes yes, Art at his best, and I was banned from playing their greatest hits in the car by my family because I played it over and over till I drove them nuts.  LoL

I got in to blues and blue grass country a bit later on, maybe in the 90's too, and always loved classical as well but afraid I'm not much of an opera lover, just the odd aria.

If I had to remember the words it would probably have to be Jean Michel Jarre's Oxygene - because there weren't any!
Zero memory for lyrics...  stuff that sticks in my head though, I could list endlessly.  Used to loose myself in music constantly as a teenager, and to a slightly lesser extent the rest of my life too.

Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb and FischerZ's Pretty Paracetamol were a couple of album tracks I used to play over and over again.
Empire State Human by the Human League and Casablanca Moon by Slapp Happy as well. National Heroes of Jamaica by Prince Far I off Heavy Manners. Nazareth's version of Delilah, and The Dubliners Whisky In The Jar are other tracks that I could never get out of my head.  Slapp Happy's Ancalbasac Moon album has been one of my favourites since I was about 18, along with a Best of John Marty album with an accoustic version of May You Never on it that I could listen to just about any time and feel warm and cozy....
Yeah, ahhh, I don't think that being some sort of "underground deejay" at an alternative/underground club should really count. LOL . I did recognize Pink Floyd and Human League in that mix.  Okay, I recognized the other later groups you wrote too. LOL  I know each generation has their own music, and then its awesome that within each there is so much variety or uniqueness.

 Music is AWESOME.

I will definetly, be PM-ing you catwoman707, for that special email on that "jukebox email". Thanks.

Elvis will always be the King @blueyedgirl5946....no matter when you grew up. What a voice.

I listen to a lot of music my favourite albums are:

The Beatles (White Album)

Kate Bush - Hounds Of Love

Nick Drake - Five Leaves Left

Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells

Fleetwood Mac - Rumours

Paul and Linda McCartney - Ram

Stevie Wonder - Songs In The Key Of Life

The Human League - Dare

David Bowie - Station To Station

Amy Winehouse - Back To Black

Adele - 21

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

Lou Reed - Transformer
How could I have forgotten Fleetwood Mac-Rumours,
  • Bangles-Different Light
  • Beatles-rubber Soul
  • Eric Clapton-Behind the Sun
  • Bruce Springsteen-Born in the USA
  • Triumph-Just a Game
  • Belinda Carlisle-Heaven on Earth

@MServant, and anyone else who likes blues.

Although I didn't dive into blues like I should have at some point, since I'm certain I am missing out, I DID however discover Gary Moore.

Not a big name, but talk about enormous talent!

You MUST check out "Still got the blues" on youtube.com. You will be doing yourself a favor :)

Type in the title and scroll to the one about 6 down that shows a woman at the water/beach.

Crank it up! One of the few where he's singing, and about half way through this 6 minute song it is instrumental only, and absolutely guaranteed to send chills all over.

I like the Delta blues slide guitar music.  I don't know who the big names are but there are several youtube videos under that name.  I have to be in a good mood to listen to it though.  I can't listen to it when I am a little down about something.  I think I have always liked blues even before I knew what the genre was.

That gave me a big smile, as I can only imagine how that made you feel as a teenager, who obviously loved him since you went to see him.

Awesome, special memory.

Pink Floyd - particularly Arnold Layne; Dino, Desi and Billy; Santana - Abraxas; Black Sabbath; Jesus Christ Superstar - saw it live at Honolulu International Center in 1972; Jimi Hendrix;  Beethoven Symphonies; Bach Brandenburg Concertos.

As you can see, I have widely varied music tastes. Can't stand country or rap, though.

'Thanks' catspaw66, I now have Arnold Layne rattling about my brain and it will probably still be there at 3 am...
Reminding me about Abraxas was a better experience, how could I forget that one. But then I forgot about Rumours too (thanks @cat nap):   I had a very rare moment with that album - up and dancing the small hours away at a friends house a couple of years ago, you can't help but get in to those tunes!

No thanks to me @MServant,  It was reminded to me by @Merlin2000, ....which is kind of funny now.....since the album was called "rumours" and I heard it from merlin2000, a rumour.....and then mentioned it again,....then you remembered it.....

Oh, never mind.....It was all a rumour...

Listen to some Stevie Ray Vaughan, one of the best blues/rock players ever.

Can any of you Blues Music fans explain it to me.  I love Eric Clapton, but not his blues stuff, I can appreciate some of it but I don't love it.

I do like sad love songs, especially Toni Braxton.

So what appeals to you about the Blues, do you all get feeling really bad and then put it on?  Or only listen to it when you are in a good mood?  Is it the melody, lyrics, feeling?

I just don't get it.

Mostly I like Blues live and got more in to it going to see live bands at small venues with a friend who has an awsome blues voice (well I think she does).

I can't really explain why I like Blues.  I only listen to it when I am in a good mood.  It's more a feeling which I can't explain.  I prefer instrumentals to vocals, guitar is my favorite but I also like piano.  Hugh Laurie from House is a pretty good blues pianist.  I think he plans on getting more into music now that the series has ended.  He planned on taking an extended trip through the Mississippi delta after the series ended, I don't know if he did it or not.

Thanks @Denice  , I didn't know "House" was a musician too.  I remember him playing the piano on the show and I think also guitar, but didn't know Hugh Laurie , the actor is also a blues musician.

One last question , and then I'll go away.

Is Jazz all that different from Blues?

Blues can't be explained. You just have to love it or not. Just like Pink Floyd.

PBS is showing Brit Floyd Live at Red Rocks. They are the "world's greatest Floyd tribute band"

I think that is "exactly" what Eric Clapton said in an interview.

In my opinion, some of the greatest music videos came on the scene right around 1983- when MTV was born. I still like to look up classics like Herbie Hancock's Rockit, just cuz I always seem to see something I didn't notice before going on in that video... and such amazing imagination went into those robotic creatures! Not to mention the song itself is very catchy.... Now my teenage son likes it & plays the video every so often, too! Ahhh, the 80's were definitely my favorite decade... And who can forget Madonna in her "Material Girl" video?
