Hello all

On a whim I bought my cat some cat grass, organic, grown in Canada eh!

I was just wondering, can I leave it out all the time, will she vomit from eating it, how do I keep the cat grass itself healthy?

Oddly my cat seems to hate anything i buy her, including food lately (cant have the same thing two days in a row!)  I set the plant down, and now she is going to town on it.  I can't tell if she is eating it or just flossing, but I wanted to check on these things, so I don't make her sick!

Thanks for the advice, stories, or just random hellos!

Update: She just yaked up a bunch of spit, and a small blade of grass... maybe I will take it away and plant it outside in the summer haha

Oh well tried something new

Is it the "cat grass" that is sold at the Metro grocery store? I've bought it too as a green source in winter on occasion. Both my cats will eat grass outside during the summer, but they rarely touch "cat grass." I've had very little luck with keeping it growing. No matter how much or how little I water it, or where I place in relative to sunlight, the whole thing yellows and dies within 7-10 days. The expensive of buying a new one every two weeks adds up.

Cats use greens to help them throw up. The throw up is usually spit. They will occasionally have a chew. It's your job to make sure that the plants that they eat are not toxic to them. Mine eat less straight-from-the-source plants in winter than in summer. One prefers the front lawn, the other prefers a certain spot at the side of the house. Maybe they just can't get used to the idea that green stuff grows indoors. I keep a number of spider plants in cat-strategic locations.

My cats loved that 'cat' grass, and they didn't throw up. I found out it was oat grass, maybe that is the difference? I did get rid of it though, they would pull it up by the roots and shake dirt EVERYWHERE!
