I have not been here in quite some time. My 2 cats are Shenandoah and Humble. Humble and Shenandoah would be 14 on April 11. Last weekend, I noticed Humble not eating and being lethargic. On Sunday he could not walk without stumbling. I took him to my vet.
Bloodwork and tests showed anemia, and a large mass in his abdomen. Radiograph showed the same. Surgery was performed on Tuesday. A mass the size of a baseball was in his abdomen....adenocarcinoma....grim prognosis. This has been a horrible week. A rollercoaster...The vet thought some of the problems may be due to his needing to recover from surgery. Humble was not in pain...they kept him sedated. He never ate. He purred some. I saw him for the last time this morning. I went to visit, told him I loved him, and held him.

More bloodwork determined a low blood count, he is anemic, and the cancer had spread to the bone. The vet said there was little hope. I had him euthanized. It was the kindest thing to do.

Much loved, sadly missed, and I have Shenandoah to comfort me.

I am so sorry for your loss.  You did all that could be done for him, he is at peace and free of sickness now.

I am so sorry to hear your news.  Humble only had a short time where he seemed to feel unwell and this is a good thing, and if the cancer had spread to his bones the chances are he would start to feel a lot of pain.  You have done the kindest, loving thing you could for him.  May you and Shanendoah be there for each other now, and find comfort in this.  Humble is free of sickness and pain now, knowing you loved him.

Very, very sad to hear, I am so sorry for your loss, and Shenandoah's loss as well. As Denice and MServant said, he didn't suffer really, it was fast, which is the most important thing as you know, it still doesn't make the heartache any better, we all know this too.

I'm glad you do have one kitty to help comfort you.

His spirit and energy are free from pain and cancer now, and will be there for you when the time comes one day.

I'm so sorry to hear about Humble, Bobbie. As MServant said, fortunately Humble didn't have to suffer for long, though I'm sure that's small consolation because his loss is devastating for you. Know that our thoughts are with you and Shenandoah in this time of pain.

RIP, Humble.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. I know words cannot describe what you are going through, please know you did what you had to do so he did not suffer. He will live on forever in your heart and memories, it will take time to turn those tears into smiles when remembering the love you two shared. He would not want you to be so sad. Shenandoah needs you now more then ever, let her comfort you. He will wait for you both at the Rainbow bridge.  RIP beautiful Humble!

I am so sorry.  Cancer is such a cruel diagnosis.

I'm so sorry! My first cat, Patches, had cancer, and it was the same emotions. The entire summer I was on a roller coaster waiting, getting hopeful when she'd have a good day and bracing on a bad day. That fall, we said goodbye. She was barely able to walk because the cancer had spread, but the dreaded sign, she was hardly eating, and normally she had fifth helpings of cheese, and cat food. She purred quietly as I said goodbye. She was old, around 14.

Thanks! She was beautiful in every way. Its' been 14 years and I still miss her, I firmly believe she guided my sister and I to our cats. She had a good life.

Thinking about Humble and you. RIP. I'm so sorry, it is hard when a sickness feels like it comes from nowhere and sweeps away our loved one. It happened with my Venus, but I am happy that she is at the bridge healthy again waiting for me.

Thanks for that. Patches was a beauty in every way, I still think of her whenever I take out cheese or open the fridge. She was a sweetheart. I agree with @PangurBan  that it's harder when it's sudden. That's what makes it so hard with Sotches
