Crust on cats nose

Hi!
My 12 year old male cat is generally very mucous-y. He suffers from allergies. For the last year and a half he had this black crust on his nose. Since it's development he's seen the vet a few times and two of those times were for physicals. The vet never mentioned his nose but I've decided to make an appointment to get a closer look at it. His nose does not ooze, it does not emit odors and when he sneezes the mucous expelled if any, is always clear. I've heard that cats with allergies will develop mucous buildup around their nose if not regularly wiped. Regardless, I am concerned and I am hoping someone else has experienced this before. He is an indoor cat and does spend some time looking out of the window in the sun. We are a tobacco and chemical free household. His diet is limited ingredient and his litter compromised of recycled newspaper. We have another cat who is the same age who does not suffer from allergies and her nose does not look this way.

I had a cat with some black stuff sort of like that on his nose and he had it for years. The vet never mentioned it either at his physical exams. He died of unrelated issue, and I have to say I never really did figure out what that was. When he got ill towards the end of his life, it seemed to enlarge a bit, I thought perhaps because of his compromised health.

Good idea to get it looked at just in case, but I would hope that if it has been there for well over a year without growing that it should not be too serious.

Became a member just to ask how kitty was doing? Also to ask you if you are using plastic bowls for food and water. There is a side effect that we call plastic rash. Bacteria grows on plastic.
