Oh, this is GREAT!!
Sounds like Jerry's just a couple paw-steps behind his brother in the warming-up stage. I'm sure they'll both blossom in the next couple days. Don't be nervous about writing the newsletter - you should feel so honored! I just cannot say it enough - thank you for all you have done for these two guys.

Now the shelter will also push us to take another foster group ASAP I'm sure - my husband and I are the ONLY consistent fosters for the group that generally houses 50-80 cats. I just feel like I need a break to focus on my graphic design work with my husband (our busnienss does suffer when I foster - I just can't work as much,, plus my attention is divided), and to let my heart heal. But they get so visibly upset when I turn them down - and I also hate it because they have almost none else to try!?!?!

Please tell me - as much as I love hearing the pitter pat of tiny kittens - it's ok to let my heart, my marriage, my lwrok, my carpet, you name it....take a break isn't it? I know kitten season is around the corner - EEEEEEK!

But then I think of all of the work I enjoyed with Tom and Jerry......and before them Cooper and Scoot....and before that Pip and Izze....it's hard to say no!

How do any of you say no?

I can't say no.

There is no one to say no to. There aren't any shelters in Japan, just an endless stream of hungry, sad-eyed cats that find their way to my door. I re~home the kittens whenever possible but I still have more than 20 TNR cats that I've taught to rely on me for food.

I think if you know the kittens are going to be in a warm shelter where they'll be fed and cared for it's OK to take a break for a while. You deserve it.

I needed that voice of reason....my marriage needed that (my husband loves the babies too but it does completley take over our lives, and since our design business only makes money when we actually WORK..he's hoping I can spend more time on actual design work for awhile. But I miss babies already!

Got another note from adopters - Tom is already sleeping on the wife's pillow when he thinks she's not looking :) Not yet with Jerry - but I told her hopefully a matter of time (he did with me). But she gave the perfect answer - which is "whatever he does is fine!"  Love that!

We're actually going over this weekend to see them and take pics for an article I'm going to write for our shelter newsletter!! Can't wait to see them!!!!

Thanks again EVERYONE for all the support through everything with Tom and Jerry :)  This site has alot of love on it :)

I'm glad that the story had a happy ending. Tom and Jerry are so cute! They remind me of my own orange tabby kitty that I had for 19 years.

By the way, Kittychick, I love that black and white kitty with the little smudgy face (avatar picture). It is so cute! I just want to squeeze it! Is he/she one of your cats?

The smudgy black and white guy "Bowie (so named because he has 'guy-liner' like David Bowie)" - is a former foster that we - shock - couldn't take back to the shelter (although my hubby reminds me that this is ALREADY the replacement for the 19 1/2 year old!!! (that was my deal).

This little guy was found by the head of another cat organization here in town - at the end of driveway during a garage sail. She'd driven by the sale  three times in three days - and this poor 6 month old kitten sat every day, in a hamster cage that was so small he couldn't turn around or stand up, and he had no food, water or litter box. He just sat, all hunched over and miserable. In the heat. By day 3 . with the sun beating down, the agency person couldn't take it anymore and just scooped him up and put him in her car. I just so happened to be bringing a foster back that I'd found someone to adopt him - and she wanted to adopt him on the spot, so...you can guess where this is headed. We all three met - she adopted her kitten that had been our foster, and I took one look at  the group head when she said "don't suppose you could turn right around and take another foster? We don't know anything about him - except I basically stole him, but he was getting treated so cruelly." One look at that face and I was in. Forever.

He's since turned into one of my favorite ever cats (is that ok to say?!?! :)  )...he's neurotic beyond belief - TERRIFIED of strangers (he STILL will literally smash his head on the upstairs master bedframe in an effort to run under the bed if he even THINKS he hears the mailwoman.

And vet visits - a treat unto themselves. Stupidly, the first time I loaded him into a carrier (I did cover it, but that was little solace). We only got about 1 mile way - he was so frantic he'd banged his face repeatedly and harshly enough to split the leather on his nose wide open...and he still wouldn't stop smashing!  He even-n does it on soft sided carriers. So we do the unsafe thing - I ride in the back and cuddle him, my hubby drives. Seems to work (although hate the idea of him loose).

He's got alot of other issues - I'm sure all tied in. Unrelenting intermittent (and very smelly!)  diarrhea that no one can pinpoint, despite testing. He's very bonded to me, tolerates my husband, but wants nothing to do with anyone else. Most people think he doesn't exist. and he snuffles and snorts and snores like an 89-yea-old man. The vet thinks he at some point had a horrid sinus illness that was left untreated. So no meow - but an absolutely hilarious "snuffle snort" I wouldn't trade for the world!

He truly is the clown at the house...and I can't imagine life without him. I'm sure he's another who would have languished a shelter for years - given his overwhelming shyness with strangers. So I think god our little clown Bowie made his way to our house - life wouldn't be the same!  I've attached a few more pics below of our very special rescue...

(meant to say the first pic saw right after I turned around and let him out of the carrier - when he'd bloodied his nose and eye).

I absolutely ADORE Bowie, he's one of the most gorgeous cats I've ever seen.

He reminds me a little bit of some of my fosters. This one is Pierrot, who went to his forever home last autumn.

These two are Button and Hiro who, now that they've turned one year old, will probably be staying with me.

Lucky me!

Same father, three different mothers.

The three mothers have all been spayed now but the father, Houdini, refuses to let himself be trapped and is probably off making smudge nosed kittens somewhere else right now.

*sigh*

Such a great story. You sound like a great foster furmily, and you found a great forever family just in time. Lots of purrs from here!

I am, of course, partial to Bowie - but that Pierrot - holy moley what a face!!!!!

A slightly sad update - Jerry was startled by the sweeper and jumped up WHILE the mom was cooking on the stove! They rushed him to the kitty ER, where he spent a night in the kitty ER and came home with bandages to one leg, completely singed-off whiskers...and a tale none of his cat buddies will believe! The new mom is horrified and devastation, but  told her accidents happen - and the real proof is in what she did....rush him in immediately, get it taken care of and monitor it closely! She's so worried I'll think they deserve to be taken from her!!! I told her it's the opposite - she TOOK CARE OF HIM - and it was a totally unforeseen accident and they rushed to do all the could to make it right. I told her I wished my mom (in real life) were that conscientious about things!

But had to include a pic of poor Tom.

Aw, poor baby!  What a cute little face.  But it sure sounds like you did a stellar job finding a good home for those two.  She did exactly the right thing and it looks like Tim couldn't be in better hands--because accidents are going to happen, aren't they!

my kittie's whiskers got singed off too once, because he got too close to the stove :( kitties are too curious. fortunately for me, it was just the whiskers and nothing else. in time they grew back. i hope Jerry/Tom (a bit confusing by your post if it was Jerry who got hurt or if it was Tom) recovers soon.

poor curious little kittens always getting into trouble.

OH dear.... :eek:hno: Poor little guy !!!!! Accidents do happen and what mattered the most is that the new momma did everything right by Jerry. I hope he recovers quickly and without too much trauma from the event. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes: Jerry !!!

new momma did the right thing

so many people have accidents with their pets, and its normal, and instead of taking their pet to get help. they dump em at the shelter because they can't afford to get help.

it's heart breaking :(
