I'm thinking of adopting some guinea pigs. Anyone have any particular experience with that? I mean, I plan on securing the cage just in case, of course, but I dunno, I'm new to guinea pigs, so... any additional advice? Things I might not think of, but should?

Guinea pigs like to live in large groups (between 4-10 individuals) and need more space than just a cage. You will need to create a village for them out of a spare bedroom to get them the exercise that they need. Most people do not realize that proper care of guinea pigs requires a LOT more space and a LOT more time than the pet stores will tell you that it does.

Well, by cage, I meant the C&C cages - I read that a 2x5" is sort of the bare minimum for two pigs. I do agree, I think it's a shame they're kept in those awful pet store cages.

I will say I have had guinea pigs with cats and other small animals and I will say my cats have never had any prey drive to them. My cats would sit up and watch the guinea pigs like it was a TV show.

I will say they need more space and care than pet stores say but I think a pair or small group can be happy if given enough stimulation with new chews, toys and obstacles that rotate.
