My Story about Bug

Bug is now a 25lb Calico cat – 12 years old – she came to us as a feral kitten not yet weaned.  When she came to us she had two older sisters who died at ages 12 and 13 with – FIP, and the other with diabetic complications from megacolon.  Bug has never covered her litter and still will not to this day.  She always had coarse, oily fur and ears,  and a lot of dandruff, especially around her rear area.   Over the years she had many bouts with UTIs and issues with diarrhea. Lots of issues with throwing up.   The vet never indicated what could cause these re - occurring problems.  Many tests were done with not a lot of answers.  It was determined that she did have IBD though.  The last couple of years  these issues have only gotten worse and more frequent. About 6 months ago my vet suggested that this could be more behavioral issues and that I may want to consider euthanizing her!  Bug is my baby and there was no way that I would do this, I had to find answers – and quickly because every bout of illness results in her urinating and defecating outside of the litter box and we have a 100% carpeted house!   I started to search online for answers.  The first thing I did was switch her to an all Grain Free diet for both wet and dry food.  It took awhile for me to find several kinds of grain food that she liked, and of course with food switches you sometimes get more digestive issues and diarrhea!   I then took to sprinkling some probiotic on her dry food to help with the diarrhea.  ( remember if you get too much probiotic you will get diarrhea too! )   Lastly I put out one more litter box, because I do have one other big old healthy cat! Bug has decided that this new litter box is “hers” and that is what she uses.  Her brother Chumlee assists me with covering her litter for me, and he has done this from day one!   Its been about two months now and although I keep a vigilant eye on her and adjust the probiotic as needed and help her with “cleaning” – I now have a 100% healthier cat!!!   Her fur is super soft and shiny, with no oil and almost no traces of that nasty dandruff.  She is much more active and happy.  She is move loveable too.  I have noticed that she is content with less food, which I am hoping will lead to her losing some needed weight.

I had regularly feed the cats Purina Indoor  dry food, and Little Friskies and Fancy Feast.  Although my other cat doesn’t have health issues I have seen improvement in his coat also.

Please do not give up on your babies – even if the vet says there is nothing else to do.   I am so very happy with the outcome and so is Bug!   We live in a rural area and there are not other vets to consider. Generally he has been very good, but not in this case.  I went to see him to let him know what I have tried and how good the results are so far, and the office staff and he were skeptical that this was the answer to the problem???

I will swear by Grain free foods from now on – a little more expensive, yes.  But I get them online, delivered free and I find they have sales often.   Much cheaper than the vet bills for sure!!

Oh yes - canned food - Nutra Natural Choice - any of the soft loafs!   Dry - Natural Balance Alpha Cat and Hills Ideal Balance Grain Free Chicken and Brown Rice!

I'm so glad you did not give up on Bug.
It's urks me to no end when vets suggest euthanasia for treatable conditions!

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful outcome and what worked for your furbaby. I hope things continue to go well. It sounds like Bug is SO much happier...as are you!
