Hi everybody,
Our youngest cat has stopped eating and was vomiting mostly clear liquid. We took him to the vet today and she took some blood, gave fluids and gave him something to stimulate his appetite. We also got two cans of AD food which he will not touch. Since he came back from the vet, he isn't even drinking. I put some AD in a dropper and fed him a little three times. He has no energy and just half lays there. I am scared to death. I don't know what could be wrong with him...

When he is healthy he plays ball up and down the stairs, carries it around in his mouth and brings it back..
I have restless leg syndrome and I have to get up and walk around quite a bit at night. When I get up, he always follows me around so cheerfully like a little puppy! I can't stand that anything will happen to him.

Please send prayers and good vibes for little Larry! Also any advice. He is such a little angel.

How old is Larry?  And did the vet tell you the results of the blood test, if it were in house?  Did she give any instructions about how to syringe feed him?

If he does not eat the AD, try any type of wet canned food, because it is very important that he does eat something.  Mash it down into a paste and add water and try warming it up, so he can smell it.

Call the vet back, ASAP and tell her that he is not eating.

Hi,
Larry is seven. I gave him more AD in a dropper this morning, but he still will not eat on his own. The vet is supposed to call today.
I am currently out of a job and we don't have much money. If this is a hospital situation, I am afraid we will not be able to afford it. As it is, we owe the vet for the visit yesterday. I know what can happen when a cat does not eat for a while, I know! I just don't know what to do other than keep feeding him with the dropper. He is drinking water now.
I fear we are running out of time, but I don't know what to do.

Keeping Larry in my thoughts and sending good vibes. Have you looked into if any of the area pet rescues or shelters can point you to a place to get help for vet bills?

It is good that he is drinking water, because hydration is so important.

Since vets are extremely busy, you be the one to call her back, just in case she forgets.

There is nothing wrong with you explaining to the vet about your financial situation, and asking if she has some sort of "payment plan" or deferred payment till later.  It never hurts to as, or even call around to other vets.

She will probably be able to tell you from the bloodwork taken, what Larry has.

Make a list of questions to ask the vet, because this always helps me, when I forget things, on the phone. Write down what they say,  so you can look it up later.

There is an excellent Thread on TCS about syringe feeding: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/227858/syringe-feeding-lucky-video-if-your-cat-is-not-eating

On this outside site, I found some sites that may help you financially,http://www.humanesociety.org/animals/resources/tips/trouble_affording_veterinary_care.html

It is from the American humane society and lists by each state, different places to get help.

Keep posting updates every few hour so that other more knowledgeable members will come on line and see them.

Many vibes for Larry. Did the vet do any imaging? Could he have eaten anything foreign that could be causing an obstruction?

Waited a bit longer for the vet to call back then called them. She is off today and the covering vet is new. She should call early tomorrow morning.
I can't wait. I want to know what, and if, we can do anything to help him.
He's slept all afternoon and I woke him up at 6:00 and I got a half of dropperful of AD food in him. I say dropper because it is wider than the syringe. I haven't seem him have a drink in a while but he did get fluids from the vet yesterday.
We are also deworming him with Panacur. We did give him dewormer for tapeworms three weeks ago since he had sesame like seeds near his bottom. Can worms cause a cat to want to completely shut down?? He has not had any imaging yet...
I fed him again at 8:30 but didn't get that much into him. Then at 11:00 PM he walked over to the dry food bowl and had a few pieces! I had the dropper half full and put some on the plate and he ate some himself! Not much but he ate himself! I don't want to get too excited yet but I am so happy at this small sign!

Many, Many Thanks to all of you who are keeping Larry in your thoughts and prayers. I am so grateful!

Many, many thanks again for your prayers and vibes! And I truly mean that, because I honestly do believe it helps!

Larry seems to be well on the road to recovery. He ate a little of the AD himself this morning and has twice eaten a bit of dry by himself. He is following me around in between his sleeping stints. The vet thinks he may have had an infection and that the antibiotic shot is helping him. I didn't even realize he had gotten that shot!
I"m still supposed to feed him a couple of times a day with the dropper for a few more days.

I hope this is it for Larry. He scared the heck out of me. I knew somebody who owned a cat that stopped eating and they wound up losing their little one, so I know how serious this can be.

What a wonderful group of people you all are! :)

YAY! ...Larry!   thanks for the update @JIL05  ,  Larry following you around is always a GOOD sign...lol.

I read what you posted earlier, and thought that maybe the Panacur might have caused some side-effect or reaction, but I really do not know enough about it.

My guy was on Drontal for worms, and when I gave him the tablet, he started "foaming" at the mouth, so I thought he was having a seizure or allergic reaction.  I was freaking, so I gave him plenty of water to try to stop the foaming.  I called the vet quick and told him what happened, and he said it was "probably because the pill tastes so bitter"....ahhh....."thanks," I thought, it would have been nice if you mentioned that before.(in my head...not to the vet)....

So the vet told me to put it in a "pill pocket" and all went well.

So after that scare, I now always write things down when I am at the vet, since I get stressed and forget.

Also there is nothing wrong in asking for a copy of the "blood work" results.  Because even if you don't understand the results, just file it into his folder.

still sending prayers, because I think everything helps
