I was thinking earlier this week as I was reading a post from someone who's cat was just diagnosed with CRF that since it is such a common problem among cats perhaps there should be a forum for people who have or have had cats with CRF.

Not a bad idea. But instead of a new forum, perhaps sticking a CRF thread would work better. I'll bring it up with the other mods and see what they think.

I think it's a great idea. I have a cat with PKD which eventually leads to renal failure. I've been looking all over the net for a support type forum. I tried joining one cat health forum but didn't feel comfortable. Everyone wanted to give me advice on how to treat my cat even if it contradicted what my vet was saying. And I kept telling them I just wanted support and ideas from others in the same situation but that wasn't going to happen!

I guess I better start checking the Health forum so I don't miss out on this one!

it's kinda funny you should ask, because at the Ragdoll forum i belong to, we have someone arguing about food in relation to CRF. i'd LOVE to see a thread on it. i even have a pretty decent website to contribute!

I can contribute two good url's as well for assessing canned and dry foods for protein, phospherous, fat, and sodium content.

On the crf list I belong to there are good discussions on when to restrict protein and on which is more important, restricting protein or phosphorus content.

I think either a new forum or sticking it to the top would be a good idea for all those with cats that have been/or will be - diagnosed with CRF can hopefully find information and support for their companions.

Ok just to reiterate, there is a top thread in the Health forum with a CRF links inside. You will find the links there that you will need. Per Anne, there will be no forum here for CRF though you will get all the support and help you need for any question you have that is within the experience of others who can help. If not, there are already other fine Chronic Renal Failure Message Boards and Mailing Lists to help you. The Link you want says Important Health and Nutrition Information- again right at the top of the Health Forum.

I'm sorry to hear this news. I have not been able to find any good support forums at all. Especially for PKD. The ones I thought I found were dead links and discontinued.

While the focus is not specificially on PKD, the crf support list I've recommended before is superb. It's a yahoogroups list, so you must be a yahoogroups member, and the name of the list is the [email protected].

I hope its ok to say this because I don't mean to break any rules! But I set up a little forum on my website that is just for PKD and CRF chit chat. I think it would help to have somewhere we can ask questions of each other and share our experiences. It gets to the point where you have much of the information that is out there and you just need to see if others go through some of the same things you do. So feel free to visit my website and look for the forum button toward the bottom of the home page. I already posted something in there
